Budapest is great. Amazing architecture, good food, interesting attractions, plenty to do for kids and, although we didn’t explore, looks like a good nightlife. We couldn't do it justice in the two full days we had here.
After visiting Lučenec, amazing that Alison spent a year here at 18, we headed back down over the border and back to Budapest. We found a beautiful apartment on Air BnB, cheap and right in the centre. 1st night we stayed in and Steve did a tour of parking machines.
Saturday morning Steve was up and at it, going to the post office to sort the parking ticket from earlier (he was very proud) the dropping the car back. We then headed to Buda Castle which is a tourist attraction, it was ok but very hot. The main event was the adult Evisons becoming separated from the child Evisons for about 10 minutes due to a lift issue (it must be hereditary). Super impresssed by the kids and the eldest in particular who found someone who spoke English and got them to phone us. Reunited we headed to Margaret Island, this was one of those great travelling flukes. It was baking to we headed to the fountain. Sat down and slowly crowds gathered. There was then a fountain display to the sound of classical music. It was lovely. A real highlight.
After a bit of playground action, and B playing footy with the locals we headed home for a rest before heading out for dinner.
Sunday was rainy so we visited a selfie museum. Bit weird but a massive ball pit so fun was had. Then traditional hungarian lunch, kids getting braver in their ordering. The boys then visited a cool metal gallery where sci fi figures have been made from scrap metal and then went for a quick drink and round of uno in the Szimpla Kert, a ruins bar (graffiti and random furniture).
Packing up tonight for an early train to Vienna and a connection as we start to head to Italy.
