Slept through the call to prayer this morning!
No I'm not getting used to it, it was the marguerita I decided to have last night.
I know brandy sour is a traditional Cypriot drink but after appearing foolish when asking for helim tost (toasted cheese sandwich) earlier in gumusluk
The waiter screwed his face up and said no not here only feta. I turned to vikki and laughed 'haha if we want helim tost we should have gone to Cyprus'
Yes the waiter said
We wrongly assumed that north cyprus and its food culture and traditions would be replicated in turkey ... Similarities on the food side of things but some huge differences ... No Helim only feta.
Anyway just in case they told us to go to Cyprus if we wanted brandy sour I said to vikki if it looks like they don't do it I will have a marguerita .... We passes so many lime groves on our way to gumusluk yesterday that I thought i would be onto a sure thing .... Freshly squeezed limes hmmmm
They had never heard of a brandy sour, but assured vikki they knew how to make a marguerita ... They pointed to the ready made up tequila sunrise, vikki said no its not got any red in, the guy ushered her away mumbling and nodding his head.
Minutes later, in what was the biggest brandy glass I have ever seen, out came what looked like orange juice with a straw!
It was a tequila sunrise without the sunrise,(no red bit) they don't know how to spirits here either. I think the red bit is what makes the sunrise sweet. Luckily it was freshly squeezed orange juice so it wasn't that bitter.
I had one glass of wine with dinner a very strong Turkish coffee and big glass of water then 2 hours later this one cocktail and I was drunk!
I didn't want to risk another accident tonight so I stuck to soft drinks for the rest of the night.
