I have been dreaming of this place for weeks! The site of the former Greek village that fell into the sea after an earth quake. Parts of the ancient town still visible in thigh, knee then thankfully ankle deep water.
We waded across to 'rabbit island' now a conservation site protected and current under archeological excavation
I have been reading as much about the area as I can over the last months and was so disappointed when we moved that we might not get here but the ride here on two dolmuş was quite uneventful and hideously cheap 13 lira £5 for both if us! It costs £5.70 from our house to Chatham! And believe me the only ancient ruin there is the job centre.
The picture is our view .... Annette vikki has taken more boat pictures for you which we will email on our return.
We are sitting with the locals in the council run self service cafe sipping Turkish tea from little glasses for the grand price of about 40p
Not that we are cheap but the more expensive (80p) bars and restaurants on tge waters edge are occupied by a thin sprinkling of tourists and quiet ... Here there is a feast for our eyes in the view, for our nose from the smell of the bakers next door and for our ears from the soft ebb and flow of friends and family chatting important stuff ... Not a mobile phone in sight except mine of course.
