G’day guys!
Sorry it’s been a while since I have been in touch- hope you are all doing well !I haven’t written for a while as I have been having a little too much fun some might say! I treated myself to a new laptop a week or so ago so fingers crossed ill be able to keep in touch a little better!
Anyway, been pretty busy playing up! Yesterday was fun; me and the boys went out fishing- my maiden voyage as a proper fisher-woman (?). We cruised around the e islands, over to Jonah bay and we managed to catch a good mackerel and this massive cod! We weighed it and it was 5 and a half kilos- never seen a fish that big ever! Not sure how they managed to pull it in with such a thin fishing line though!!Afterwards I spent the afternoon (and the rest!) until 8am the next morning at a housewarming- so played up a little!!
At the weekend I went crabbing with Jason. It’s a big sport round here so I just had to try it! So at 7am on Saturday morning (a time I don’t normally see!) off we went out on the boat whizzing around the islands (amazing view in the morning I must say!) until we got over to the creek to put some crab pots in. This took a while as you have to find good spots to place them and with the bait you leave them in overnight. So once we done that we sailed back over to the eco resort and I had to go off to work at midday which kinda sucked. The next morning off we went again but it wasn’t such an easy ride! The sea was pretty rough so we were bouncing all over the place but its all good fun! Once we got there we cruised around the creek collecting the crab pots. I got so messy- covered head to toe in mud and various crap! Jason said I had to get the real experience so I was pulling the pots up out of the water- full of nice big mud crabs! The mud crabs are huge here and pretty dangerous! You will have to check out the pictures on facebook! They are scary though- nip your finger off in a second so as you can imagine having them all crawling around on the floor in the boat was a little worrying at times!! However, I was cruising around a river full of crocodiles and deadly jellyfish so I guess the crabs were really the least of my worries! The locals couldn’t believe it when I told them I got out of the boat and went up on the bank- shocked that I wasn’t either eaten by a croc or lose a finger or toe to a crab but I’m back in one piece so it’s all gravey!! He he!!
On Monday, I was looking forward to a nice relaxing afternoon but yet again that didn’t happen. I went out weight boarding with the boys which was good fun! So we were speeding round the beach with them hanging onto the back of the boat for dear life- quite amusing I must say! Once they managed to break the weight board the surf board came out! So that was fun! They were pretty keen for me to have a go but as I was working in an hour I decided it will be best to try and kill myself another time!
I also spent some nice chilled out days relaxing on the beach enjoying the sunshine, followed by a leisurely afternoon down the pub. That evening me and Jason made a little campfire and decided to ‘camp’ outside. As you do! It just shows you that a year is not long enough here as I am still learning new things- I learnt only the day before what a ‘swag’ was. It is basically an awesome sleeping bag with a mattress and pillow all built in. Everyone has one, (apparently they are great for sailing and stuff as you can just pull up on the shore and sleep on the beach). So snuggled up in a swag next to the campfire we watched the shooting stars and found the Southern Cross star as well as lots of others. It was pretty amazing to sleep under the stars...
Another great day, thanks to the sun and cockatoos we were up nice and early and it was such a lovely day so we took Ally (my adopted dog) for a walk down the beach. It’s gorgeous down there in the mornings, really the best time of the day to go! After that we headed into Airlie Beach, wandered around the lagoon up to the sailing club for a drink and then Jason took me for lunch at ‘Hogs Breath Cafe’ which doesn’t sound very appealing I must admit, but Oh my god, I had the best steak there- the best steak I have ever had!
Once we got back it was time for a quick drink down the pub- well there is no such thing and half hour later I was on my way over to Montes, which is a resort down the road in Hydeaway bay. Right on the beach- lovely place and great food. I’m good mates with all the lads down there so we spent the afternoon hanging out down the beach and watching the sunset. This place has the best sunset I have ever seen on my entire life! Sitting on the beach right outside you have the perfect view out onto the water and of the islands. When the sun goes down it goes all different shades of orange in the distance and it’s totally amazing- could watch it for hours! Well to be fair I probably did!
Last week it was the first day of winter here so I thought- what better way to spend the first day of winter than to go and sun bake on the beach!! So off I went. Met the boys down there for a bit of spear fishing and then we decided it was time for a few drinks so we hung out drinking on the beach before heading over to the Eco- Resort for lunch! We spent a nice afternoon there drinking in the sun and on the beach.
I also went into Airlie markets with Sami (friends from work) for a wander around which was nice. Went out with another friend- Nic to do some shopping for some winter clothes as it is getting a little chilly at night here. Went out with Cecs- another friend from work for lunch at Jubilee Tavern and then a wander around Airlie and Cannonvale. It’s always nice to get out of Dingo Beach on your days off and as it’s quite far we normally make a day of it.
Everyone keeps asking me how long I’ll be sticking around Dingo Beach; I still find it hard to believe I have been here nearly 3 months as it is! Answer is, I have no idea! I really love it here and have fitted in really well- I feel like I have known the locals forever and we all have a great laugh together. My boss is happy to keep me here as long as I want as I am ‘a little ray of sunshine’ apparently so that was nice! I have some rough plans of what I want to do next but after I have headed as far north as I can go I will then hopefully be heading over to Western Australia. Problem is, it is a lot harder to plan as it is such a vast distance between places and the outback can be a pretty rough place on long journeys so I am having to think it all through and look into it in a lot more detail which makes things a bit harder. I don’t have any plans to move on too soon as I love my little life here, I’m making good money and I have some good friends and of course Jason.
There have been a few lovely little incidents when I was sharing my shower with various bugs and gross things- lizards crawling on your feet, giant Kane toads watching you from the corners and the most massive Grasshopper I have ever seen decided to jump on me mid shower which took me by surprise! But that’s the kind of crap I’m dealing with these days!
So I am cruising through my little life here at the moment and have the ultimate dream of having the week off and just working at the weekends! This weekend is ‘Whitfunday’ down here where they close off the road and have all different things going on. Expecting about 1200 people I think so the pub will be crazy busy so a mad weekend ahead I think!
Until the next time.....lots of love xxx

Daddy Hey wanderer, great to read an update at last! I think this "little ray of sunshine" is getting a taste for extreme sports, crab fishing and and sunbathing with crocodiles is just not the done thing over here...It seems you have found a little piece of the world that you will keep in your heart for ever and that is something not many of us can say. For that one reason alone your trip has been worthwhile. Keep living the dream because it is your dream and yours alone.... Love you always Daddy xxx
Your Favourite Lil Sis and Big Bro :D We decided that would write you a blog because our life is more interetsing than yours. We believe that everyone in the world (including Oz) should have a pocket of excitement such as Buntingford. The excitement from Layston park to ... Edwinstree park cant be fufilled within the wee hours of just one day. So. Today, to start it all off, was a long and exciting lay in 'til 11 - I bet you can't say the same! After that, I spent an absolutely thrilling three and a half hours cleaning the kitchin cupboards for Mum... and then I ate a cereal bar. Top stuff. Anyway, the afore mentioned brother and I are going to a concert in London tomorrow - greatly looking forward to that but, even more exciting, it's 6pm and it's still marginally light and sunny :D I believe the start of the day will be like no other - I will change my socks and have an odd mixture between colourful and traditional British. I feel that such an event should have a random hypothesis for breakfast, I don't want to even think of what I might find edible. The escapades in Buntingford town are one that Dingo Beach cannot compete with .. maybe you couldn't handle Buntingford, so you raaan awwayyy ;) lol So, to conclude, Buntingford is still full of chavs, excitement, potential, the occasional shooting - no, not really, it's not THAT exciting. *phew* I don't think even our phenomenally rambuncious, [insert as many words that mean exciting as desired] town could take that much... uh... excitement :D What with Buntingford being rated #1 on the 'Ultimate Holiday Destinations In the World' list in all the greatest Travel magazines, it's tiring stuff, so we'll end here and continue with our absolutely thrilling lives. P.S. The fair's here!!!!!!!!!!!!! xD
