Hey guys!
Hope your all well and enjoying the nice weather I sent over for you! lol
Sorry its been a while since I last updated but things have been pretty crazy here in the land of laid back aussies!!
Once I left Fraser Island, I made a spontanious decision to head up to Airlie Beach early with the group of girls I was with at Fraser. So I booked the ticket and here I am...
I was in Airlie Beach for about 2 weeks altogether I think, partying, relaxing and of course job hunting! As I said I came up here with all the girls so got to spend some more time with them which was great....I must admot I spent most of my time in Airlie partying as its just that sort od town! I met all kinds of random people out and about here too which was good so half the time I didnt know who I was out with just having a great time!
Starting off with some drinking games in the dorms with your room mates and then follow the path of destruction down Airlies main street before ending up in Mamma Africas Nightclub! I had a great night out with the twins from the island, and with Emily and Flora, as well as a random french guy, a random kiwi guys and too many other randoms I dont care to remember...
When werenet partying we were relaxing around the Lagoon which is a nice big swimming area in the middle of Airlie. The problem with Queensland is that because it is stinger season most of the year its not safe to go into the sea so they made this so people could still have a swim and cool off from the harsh aussie sun! The job hunting was going ok, but people take so long to come back to you here you cant help but panic a little!!
However after those 2 weeks I had an interview for the bar I am currently working at in Dingo Beach which I was pretty excited about as it sounded great. So I met Stacey (my boss) in Airlie and he took me and my mate Dan down there. (Dan is another random I met in Airlie whilst job hunting and Stacey mentioned that he needed another person so I mentioned Dan and he came for an interview too)
Once we arrived I was pleasantly suprised to see this big building right on the beach overlooking the sea. It had a bar, restaurant, general store, post office and holiday units. In my interview we pretty much sat and had lunch in the restaurant and spent a few hours there checking it out and chatting! Definatly my kind of interview!! Luckily, we were told straight away we already had the job so we made arrangements so move in here the next day.
We started off living in one of the holiday units, the plan was to start work the following week once we had got to know the plkace- however it never really works out that way and I think we started work sooner but it was good to be chucked in at the deep end so I was happy!!
I was put straight in the bar so got to know all the locals pretty quickly and they were all keen to know all about me and where I came from and stuff so thats nice!
Fast fowarding a bit on from there I have now been working here about 3 1/2 weeks and in that short time I have done and experienced so much again! The locals have taken me in and taken me out actually! A few days ago I went out with some of the local lads and my mates sailing. Sailing and fishing is a big thing here at Dingo and everyone is so nice always offering to take you out and show you the sights! So we headed out one morning and sailed out from Dingo and around Glouster Island to a place called Monty's which is another bar here ( 2 hours sail away) The beach was beautiful and we had a lovely fresh seafood lunch and I must admit I got very drunk! We picked up a few more people before heading back to Dingo later that afternoon. We had such a lovely day and the sights were amazing- gorgeous beached that go on for miles, turquoise waters that change colour as they hit the reef- pictures of paradise!
I have also made some good friends here, all boys I might add as there arent really any girls my age here but I dont mind that! So I spend most of my free time with them getting up to all sorts of trouble for all the locals to shake thier heads at the next morning! he he! I have also done the thing I said I woulndt do and have myself a 'boyfriend' but we wont go into that as I know you dont want to know!!
Yesterday I was yet again out of my comfort zone when handed a mud crab! As I said fishing is a big thing here so everyone was shocked and horrified to learn that I hadnt eaten a mud crab before! After several offers of mud crab one night one of the locals arrived with a pre cleaned and cooked crab ready to eat- all I had to do was take it apart! Well, I took this thing out the the bag and it was like double the size of my head- with claws and all!! I was a bit scared! So off I went with a hammer and willing attitude! An hour later I had a bowl full of fresh mud crab and a pile of remains I had taken the hammer too! It was actually very good fun- although not something I could imagine us English doing!
The good thing about this job is that I dont really work many hours but get paid well enough that it doesnt matter! So I rarely have to get out of bed before midday if I dont have too and for those of you that know me well enough, you will know that I love that! I work mainly afternoons and weekends but on those magical days off I like to go exploring! Last week we found a place called Ceder Falls which is kind of on the way to Airlie. Its this gorgeous natural waterfall, like the ones you see in movies. Totally lush which its lake to swim in and the odd insane person jumping from the top. Just a lovely place to visit so ill be heading back there soon!
Anyway, I better be off now- sure I have forgotten loads of stuff I wanted to tell you but never mind! Off to work soon- Friday night at the bar so one must prepare! I have my phone sorted now and my number is 0413909976.
Speak to you all soon xxxx
Ps. I know a lot of you are wondering about my plans in the next few months- well, Im not going to tell you yet- Ill keep you in suspense a little longer...:o)

Daddy Hey Wanderer I am really pleased you are getting to do the things you wanted to do and see the things you perhaps never thought you would see. Your latest blog has an added element that we haven't seen thus far and and maybe the future is as as cut and dried as it once was. Opportunity only strikes once for most people, for you I think it will strike how ever many times you ask. Don't waste it. Dingo beach looks like another of those lovely out of the way places that make you feel welcome and at home, shame about the name. Stay out of trouble,. Love you always Daddy xxx
Steph Hey Wrenny :D Still having a good time as always, eh? We're all loving and missing you here :) Much love xxx
