Hey guys!!
After my weeks events with the children I enjoyed a few days away on the sunshine coast. The sunshine coast is north of Brisbane (the gold coast is south) incase you were all wondering- it confused me some what i tell ya!! So on the sunshine coast you have Noosa, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and others! I headed to Mooloolaba on Sunday morning for a wander along the beach and the beach front- lovely little spot! In the afternoon, I headed over to Maroochydore which is where I caught my bus to Noosa.
I actually have my friend Shian to blame for heading to Noosa. When I met her on the farm she went on about how lovely it was and that I really must head there if I get the chance. I didnt think I would really get the chance to go but hey it just shjow you how quick things change!! When I looked into the Noosa area I realised it was actually split into a few parts- Noosaville and Noosa heads. Noosaville sounds like somthing off a computer game but it is what it sounds like- a small village. Noosa heads is the palce to be (so i heard!)
Noosa heads is the tourist part of Noosa, where the gorgeous beach is, the spit and the national park. A little like Byron bay it is just a little beach town but when you want to head away for a relaxing weekend its perfect!!
As I decided (again!) to go last minute- I didnt book any transport home or a place to stay- just decided to head there and see what happens! So upon arrival my first job was to find somewhere to stay. The whole time I have been in Oz I have been staying in YHA's (Youth hostel association) hostels as the have a good rep and are usually in the best spot. However when I got there they didnt have any space so I had to head to a Nomads hostel. I always heard that Nomads didnt have a very good rep as they could be dirty and crowded so I was a little doubtful but it was there or the park so off i went!! lol
I was suprised to be given an 8 bed shared dorm (all the other dorms i have been staying in have been female). When I got in there I was shocked to see a spacious, empty, clean room with an en-suite!! Real luxery for a traveller!! So with the excitment of it all I jumped straight in the shower!! he he!! Not long after a lovely french guy arrived in the room, his english wasnt great but i could understand him so it was ok! He had just arrived to so we decided to head out exploring togther. We headed down to Noosa manin beach and went for a swim. Then we wandered around the main street checking everything out.
Once we got back to the hostel we were offered a free meal in the hostel bar which we went for- although there was no point as it was mank!! some sort of beef stew without the beef!! Not like mumma used to make... (yes mum your cooking is better than someone elses!!)
We hung around the bar and got chatting to some english girls who had moved to New Zealand- had a few games of pool and that. As all backpackers/ party hostels go there were a few games to play for entertainment which we of course took part in!!
One of the games- Limbo (i am totally crap at!) the english girl won and her prize was an all inclusive 3 day, 2 night self drive trip to Fraser island. As it turned out she was actually going home the next day so she very kindly gave the prize to me!! Yeah...I couldnt belive it either! Bless her!! So I now have a long weekend exploring the worlds biggest sand island in a 4x4 and sleeping under the stars to look forward to!! Very excited about that!! It is valid for a few months so ill have to wait until I finish my job and head up north a bit more until I can use it- hopefully around february time!
So after a few more drinks (i of course bought her a big one to say thanks!) and some dancing we all crashed out oin the hostel!
The next day I decided it was some time for some rest and relaxation so I headed to the beach! It has been in the high 30's here temp wise most days so I spent all day on the bach relaxing on the sand and actually getting in the sea!! For those of you who know me, you will know that I am not a big fan of going into the sea!! Infact, since being a kid I can only remember being in the sea once as an adult and that was when me and leonie were on a boat trip in Magaluf and she persuaded me to go champagne diving with her!! If there wasnt alcohol at the other end I would have gone!! lol
So yeah, Im not sure what it is about the sea, whats in it (a lot that can kill you over here!) the drowning or purely knowing what damage and strength the sea has im not sure...but i braved it and walked in up to my waist and actually stayed there for a while, so it may not sound a lot to you guys- but for me that was a real achievement!! Hopefully now I am one step closer to getting in the sea to practise my surfing skills!! We'll see...
So had a lovely day relaxing on the beach and working on my (pretty good already) tan!! Sorry to rub it in guys but I love being so tanned!! God bless Australia!! That eveing I treated myself to a pizza and spent the evening chatting to another english couple and some other people i my room.
On Tuesday I thought it would be a good idea to book my transport as I was heading home that day!! So I logged on line and booked the greyhound out of Noosa for 3pm that afternoon. Up until then I spent the afernoon wondering around Noosa- to all the spots I hadnt seen as well as taking a little trek through the National park. I found a great little cove away from the main beach which had a stunning view of the manin Noosa beach as well as lotsa of surfers!!
Once I left at 3pm it was a 3 hour bus trip back to Brisbane, where I got on another bus home to Tanah Merah and was welcomed home by the family! It was kind of strange to say, but I actually missed the family a little while I was away- mainly the kids of course!! It was great to see them and hear about all the things they had been up to while I was away!
As some of you may know I havent enjoyed all my time here since I started the new job but I am pleased to say that things are getting a lot better now the kids are settled into the new house and everyone is getting into a routine!! Even me, I have thrown myself into it and started setting up all sorts of things for the kids to do to keep them out of mischief!! Today we baked shortbread cookies and then iced them and stuck on smarties and marshmellows!! Although I think most of them got eaten rather than suck on the biscutis!! So yes we have had a nice couple of days together and the good times seem to be outweighing the bad so fingers crossed its all up from here!!
We have play group again tomorrow morning and we are making christmas wreaths- im glad i am with young children on the lead up to xmas as it makes everything so much more exciting!! We went to visit Santa the other day and I think I enjoyed it more than they did!! So its great to be able to make things with them, as well as blackmail them with "you must be good or Santa wont come..."
Nice quick week to as it is the weekend again!! I think this weekend I will have a quiet lazy one as the last few have been a little crazy!! Oh yeah, the family kindly informed me that Grandma is coming to stay over the weekend and next week which would be fine except they are both at work most of the time so it looks like I will be doing the entertaining!! Which Sucks!! So ill let you know how thats goes.....
