Latest Moths

(Please note that any excursion adverts on this blog are placed by the web site owners and not us)
The trap was put out with the Prolite 25W Black Light bulb on the 1st of Dec and again with the Sylvania Mini-Linx Blacklight 20W on the 2nd of Dec. They stayed on all night.
Night temps were between 9 and 12oC.
A good collection of moths were caught each night.
The black light bringing in more grass veneers.
Of interest are the Cabbage Tree Moth as its colouration is a match for the dead leaves of the cabbage trees here in NZ, and the Orocrambus angustipennis which is the largest of the Orocrambus and this specimen was over 3 cm long from tail to nose tip.
The Orchard Featherfoot although endemic was first described in 1988!
Also included is the third butterfly seen the Coastal Copper. This is one of several Coppers here in NZ but as yet over the last two years this is the only species we have seen. It was spotted in exactly the same place as January this year, on the west coast.
I am very happy if any ID's are corrected as these are all new to me.
