Today was the last day of our trip and we tried to make the most of it before we headed to the airport.
We awoke to the alarm at 7:30am and got ourselves and our things together for the last time. We dropped the key back at reception and dragged our bags to the metro. We caught the train to Hong Kong station where we used the in-town check in. It was pretty awesome! No lines and we were able to dump our bags and get our boarding passes. Definitely adds another point to the Hong Kong basket.
After we'd offloaded our bags we had a quick coffee and baked good at Starbucks before walking down under the station area to find the green minibus line. I had read about this minibus that goes up to Victoria Peak and we thought this might be a better idea than trying to get the tram. Turns out we were right! There was no line for the bus and we enjoyed a comfortable and cheap ride to the peak.
Victoria Peak was okay. We only went to the free observatory because it was a fairly foggy day anyway. We got a few snaps but honestly, it wasn't that time consuming thing to do so we didn't stay long.
We decided to get the tram down which was cool because there wasn't much of a line at that time of the morning and we still got to experience the tram. It was a bit exciting because it gets really steep at one point and all the high rise buildings around you are at a crazy slope.
After the tram we decided to head down to the pier where on a whim we thought we'd go to the Maritime Museum and just our luck, the place was offering free entry for January! We spent an hour and a bit in there reading about the history of Victoria Bay and the formation of Hong Kong.
After that we went for a ride on the ferry to get back across to where we had actually stayed for this leg of the trip, Tsim Sha Tsui. We had lunch at Coco Ichiban which was okay but not as good as in Japan.
We looked through a cool bookshop for a while but didn't feel like buying much. We couldn't think of anything else we wanted to do so decided to take the ferry back to the Hong Kong side and then onto the airport express.
It's been a good stay in Hong Kong and this trip overall has felt like it went for ages! Which I suppose is good because you don't want a holiday to go quickly. However it will be good to get home and have a sleep in our own bed.
