Happy New Years!
Although today was a little bit unhappy to start with. When Shannon and I awoke we both immediately realised that we were hungover. This was a surprise to both of us because we thought we had drunk really sensibly and hadn't over done it. But alas, our heads and stomachs advised us otherwise.
Subsequently, the day was spent largely trying to make ourselves feel better by sleeping. By 3pm I realised that this laying around in a tiny room with no window was not helping and I painfully pulled myself into some sort of presentable state with Shannon in tow.
As soon as we stepped outside we felt a little better from the fresh air. Next stop was food so we went to the nearby bakery and picked up some things. I suggested we go and eat them in Kowloon Park which is just across from our hostel building.
We walked in there and it was actually quite crowded with many people picnicking and having a good time. We found a bit of rock wall to sit on and attempted to eat. The first bite of my sweet potato bun was actually a shakey one and I had to try hard to keep it down for five minutes before being able to continue eating. However after finishing a mini cupcake, the bun and a bottle of Porcari Swear I finally started to feel better. We sat for a while and people watched before heading around the city for a walk.
We went to the cinema to see if we could catch a film and decided to see Ip Man 3 at 8pm. That gave us about 4 hours to fill.
We spent this time looking through a few shops (I bought the cutest book about pandas going to the onsen), enjoying a coffee at Starbucks, taking some pictures down at the pier and having dinner at the Spaghetti House.
We arrived back at the cinema pretty much right on time and took our seats. The movie was very good and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. And because it's set in Hong Kong we can say we were still taking in the history of the city!
We are back at the hostel now preparing to settle down for our last night. We plan to check out at around 8am tomorrow and go drop our bags off at the in-town check in. This is a place where you can drop your bags off for a flight up to a day in advance and check yourself in and they deliver the bag to the airport. We both think it's the coolest thing ever and can't wait to give it a burl. That means we'll be baggage free for a free day in Hong Kong (our flight isn't until 7pm) and then when we get to the airport all we have to do is walk through customs. How cool is that?!
Anyway, it's sad that the journey has come to an end but I am very much looking forward to getting home to see the cats.
