We did a lot of walking today and my feet are pretty sore right now. It was a great day though.
It started with us awakening to Shannon's alarm at 9am. Shannon was again very diligent in getting us up and turned on the lights immediately so that there would be no snoozing. We washed and dressed and prepared for the day.
We headed out at around 10am and tried to find breakfast somewhere but didn't have much luck. Shannon ended up having a custard croissant taiyaki and I had a peach ice tea.
We walked to the clock tower near the pier to find the walking tour group and easily stopped them by their signature green umbrella. There were two nice girls running the tour and by 11am we had a group of eight.
The walking tour went from 11am until 1:30pm and we went around the Tsim Sha Tsui area and got to see a lot of different things. To name a few: the clock tower of the first railway station in Hong Kong, the HK skyline and a bit about the different buildings, Chungking Mansions (which we had looked in yesterday but didn't know the history), Garden of the Stars (Avenue of the Stars is under renovation), 1881 Heritage building, remains of the original fire department and also tried some street food and traditional herbal teas. It was an enjoyable walk and I liked going around and seeing different parts of the city which we may not have discovered on our own. It was free but we gave them a tip at the end.
After the tour we stopped back at the hostel briefly to use the toilet and then went out to a restaurant we had tried to go to yesterday but it was too busy. We had to wait for maybe 5mins but we got ushered through to a table in no time. We ordered a range of things to share: pork soup dumplings, cold pork noodle salad, minced meat noodles, sautéed spinach, glutinous rice bun and wonton dumplings. It was a lot of food but it was all delicious with the exception of the glutinous rice bun which was just a bit too strange. When we were ordering we discovered it was actually a one Michelin star restaurant as well so we were pretty stocked about that. And when the food came out we could understand why. We left with very happy tummies.
We headed over to the ladies market for a browse and Shannon bought a phone arm band for jogging. After an hour we decided we were done.
We made another pit stop at the hostel so that Shannon could change into pants before taking the metro to Austin to get to the Ritz Carlton. Monica, my cousin, had told me about the Ozone Bar at the Ritz where you could get good views of the bay. It was a bit of a walk to actually find the entrance to the hotel and we made a few wrong turns. But in the end we got there! It seems like a pretty ritzy place, the hotel in general. When we got to the Ozone Bar level a lady escorted us to the outdoor terrace where there were great views over Hong Kong. It was night time by now too so we got to see all the lights. It was quite full up there and we didn't get a seat but we found a table to lean against. We ordered a couple of expensive drinks and got given a bowl of complimentary nuts to share. We enjoyed our drinks and nuts whilst we looked out over the bay. Once we had finished our drinks we decided to depart.
We took another metro route home so that we wouldn't have to walk as far and stopped at a Starbucks on the way home to have a coffee and a sit down. We found a free magazine at Starbucks which had some cool suggestions for New Years tomorrow night as well so I think we are going to look into one of those.
We bought a pineapple bun and custard tart as a small snack before heading into the hostel for a shower and sleepy weepy time. We only have a few more days left! And now it seems like we have so much to cram in.
