We headed out of Cave City this morning before 10AM and it was a short 1 1/2 hr. ride to Nashville TN.
The Campground where we are staying is Two Rivers CG and there are other CG and hotels right on this road. We set up quickly and then headed out to catch the shuttle into downtown to have lunch and start exploring. There are shuttles from the CG into downtown Nashville. It's about a 12 mile 30 minute ride. The shuttles ride up and down Music City Dr. picking up passengers from all the CGs and hotels on this strip. Grand Old Opry hotel is just up the road from where we are staying.
After lunch we got on the hop on and off trolley tour to catch a ride to Ryman Auditorium. We arrived about 2:30 and bought tickets for the 3PM backstage tour. They said the tour would be 1 1/2, so I was afraid we would miss the last trolley tour that would stop by about 4:10.
We went in and watch the movie before the tour started. The tour took us into the main auditorium and then backstage to both sides of the auditorium into the dressing rooms. We were done by 3:30. I felt it was not really worth it to pay the extra money for the "backstage" part. We browsed around on our own a little more and then went outside to wait for the trolley.
We did the whole route on the trolley to get a feel for the rest of the sites and hear the narration from the tour guide. Instead of riding all the way to the riverside, the driver let us off on Broadway and we walked up and down the street looking at the music venues. There were several people signing and a few sounded really good. I feel bad going in and taking a table since we are not hungry for food and they would not make money on us on drinks.
A few years ago listening to Adventures in Odyssey we learned about the Fisk Jubilee singers. They saved Fisk University with their concerts. It is a story of faith in God's providence. When we went to the James Garfield House Museum earlier this year there was mention of the President really liking their music when he saw them perform. Today we learned Nashville got the name Music City when the Queen Victoria heard the Fisk Jubilee singers and send a letter where she said they must come from music city. Fisk University is near downtown.
We went back to the RV on the shuttle and then went to cool off in the pool. Gil is posting pictures as I write this. We are going to get some rest to head out early tomorrow morning. Most of the sites close around 5PM so we want to head out early to be able to do as much as we can.
