Today we had an early wake up call. We were going to Wind Cave National Park and needed to get there early. The cave can be visited in ranger led tours which have specific schedules and sell out.
The park opened at 8 and the first tour is at 9. We had an hour drive and arrived there by 8:15. We got tickets for the first tour and watched a film about the park in the visitor center. The tour takes you down a path to see the natural cave entrance where it was discovered. You then enter the cave through an elevator. The cave has concrete path and steps which are mostly going downhill. The exit to the cave is through the elevator from a lower level than the one used to enter.
After the park we drove for lunch to Rapid City to try a restaurant that was heavily advertised on the highway. Firehouse has a really truck by almost every billboard. I wish they would have put as much effort into their food. It was edible but bland. My fish tacos even with the mango salsa had no taste.
We wanted to walk around looking for the rest of the President's. We did not get far since it started to sprinkle. Knowing there were strong thunderstorms coming to the area we drove back to the RV. We arrived back at the RV just in time to secure some items before a storm with really strong winds rolled around. We spend the rest of the evening relaxing. Tomorrow is another early day.
