Last night we had a bit of an adventure that culminated this morning. Before we left Nashville we filled up our water tank in preparation for a few nights on the road without reservation. When we stop for one night we often have no hookups; and if we stop at a campground we normally only hook up the electricity. We use the water in our tank and do not connect the sewer unless we need to dump the tanks.
I took a shower last night, but the water pressure seemed low. I thought maybe our shower head had broken. We have a special shower head with an oxygenic system. It's build to use less water while giving the impression of a stronger water flow. When Gil went to take one, he said there is no water. How could there be no water? We filled up in the morning and have not used it much. I told him I turned on the water pump and there was water, it seemed low but I was able to shower. -"Why would you need the pump? I connected us to the city water." I was now very confused, I had to turn the water pump to get water as normal when we are not connected to water. I now checked the water levels and indeed the tank was empty. It was now raining. Gil went outside and realized he had connected us to water tank fill and not city water so he switched it and showered. If we had the tank filling, and we had filled it before, why was it empty? It was too late for my brain to try to figure out what was going on, I was to tired.
In the morning we woke up and had no water again. What is going on? I thought we were connected to city water! Gil went outside and found our water turned off. Someone had turned off our water at the site. As it turned out, our water filter became loose on the drive and since we had the water pump on, it slowly drained our tank - that is why the pressure was low when I showered and the tank was empty. When Gil connected the water it continued to leak and he did not notice it in the rain. Once he got the water filter hooked on again properly we were able to fill the water tank again. The crazy little things that happen when you are on the road and your house is shaking down the road. I am just grateful it was not big problem.
We made our way back to the NTP where we explored a few Mounds, Donavan Slough where we were introduced to Cypress and Tupelo Trees and another one that has a shredded bark.
We also stopped at the Visitor Center on MM 266. After the visitor center we drove into Tupelo. Elvis Presley birthplace. I made lunch and we ate in the parking lot. We then toured Elvis Presley birthplace. The site has his birth house, the chapel which was moved from up the road, a museum and monuments.
After the museum we backtracked a little to Chickasaw Village at MM 261.8. There is not much of a village. It would have been nice if they had reconstructed some of the buildings. Instead there are just outlines on the ground of where their houses and fort would have been.
We checked a campground at MM 230 for availability, but they were booked for the night. So we decided to drive for an hour and a half to get to a Walmart in Kosciusko MS. The Jeff Busby campground was on the way, but we did not want to stay there without hookups. It's a hot night and we need to run the AC.
We passed by French Camp which I wanted to visit, but it was passed 4PM so they were closed. The restaurant is open until 7Pm and I read has good food, but it's hard for me to remember all the details when I am the one driving. Alas we will have to save it for another time.
Butterflies - the title of this post. Ever since we got into Kentucky Butterflies are everywhere (except in Nashville). They were at the Ark, the cave and now all over the Parkway. One landed on our windshield when we were parked at an overlook and hitched a ride with us for some miles. There are Black & Blue butterflies, yellow, orange with spots, a big yellow with spots and so many others flying everywhere. The sad part is they sit on the ground and do not move sometimes. We see them on the road as we are driving. I keep thinking the front tire missed them, but there is no escaping the double back tires.
We are ahead of schedule on this day and may finish the route tomorrow. Gil wants to visit Vicksburg Battlefield so I am going to look at the route and see what is the best way to make a side trip there.
