Our last day in Acadia we set out to explore the Park Loop road, our first stop was to finally take a picture by the NP sign.
After that we stopped at the Wild Gardens of Acadia. We strolled around the gardens and surrounding Nature center. We walk a wooden trail for about a mile where Kati got to take pictures of a few birds, including a close up of a wood pecker. She has a new love for birding and I help her spot them.
Second stop was the Presipice- Tyler challenged Javi to hike it with "you may regret you did it, but you will never forget". The kids looked up at the ledge and debated if they would be up to it. Molly and Javi decided they would do it, while Kati decided to pass. For me, that is way too steep and I would be afraid of the heights hiking up the ladder on the ledge. We had lunch and then they headed out on the hike. Kati and I decided to explore other areas while we waited.
We drove ahead for a bit, parked and decided to walk the Ocean Trail to Thunder Hole. Ocean Trail was beautiful. We got off the trail a few times to explore the rocky shore. The views were breathtaking. This was finally feeling like a National Park should feel. Thunder Hole was not too active, I overheard its most impressive right before high tide and when the ocean is rough, but we did hear it thunder a couple of times.
We walked back to the car and then drove around the loop making a few more stops to bird watch. Being that the loop road is one way for most of it, we had to drive it all around to get back to where Molly and Javi were. We arrived and sat down to wait. The time was not wasted since Kati was on the lookout for a Falcon nest in that spot. That trail had been closed for some time due to the nest, and it had just re-opened. The waiting paid off since she was able to spot it and get an awesome picture. (Pictures coming later).
Molly and Javi arrived from their hike pretty exhausted. We got in the car and made a quick stop at Thunder Hole for them to hear it, we then drove off stopping at Otter Point and Jordan Pond. Otter point would be a good place to watch the sunset, and Jordan Pond has a nice trail around it, but we just hiked up to the edge of the Pond as Javi and Molly were anxious to get back and rest.
By this time is was past 6PM so we drove back to the RV, cleaned up and went to get dinner.
This wraps up our Acadia visit and I leave feeling satisfied. Today was an awesome Sabbath. The sunshine and great temperatures made it most enjoyable to explore God's beautiful nature.
Tomorrow we head to Massachusetts.
