UB Camp 4 to UB Camp 5
Roads are much better now, the surface still has loose gravel on it but it only at the level I've seen before in South America. The scenery has settled into almost a pattern of extremes the hills still appear to be huge distances away but they are beginning to grow pines which make them look slightly more normal. We ride the first graded roads today, the first one is a direct replica of the Dalton Highway the rest are pretty much the same as Carretera Austral with the big difference that when the road gets particularly bad they throw you off it into the surrounding countryside where the traffic cuts multiple parallel tracks across the landscape, the trick is to select the most useable and direct path from those available. It makes for great fun particularly when you add a selection of pot holes that are big enough to swallow a couple of four by fours, it's sort of like playing a game of 3 dimensional dodge ball where the vehicles coming toward you disappear into a hole travelling in one direction then appear travelling in a different direction some seconds later. Then you add 13 motorcycles travelling in the same direction as you and it all adds up to a mind addling experience. I had to stop at one point just to reorientate my head. We pass through Tsetserlegthe first large town since we entered Mongolia and of course see our first traffic accident. We stop in the place and pick up some food then find a camping site near to the town of Kharkhorin
