Today we all sleep in. Nice not to have to head out really early. It's our last day of our holiday so take it easy and get some washes on and clean up a little before heading out.
We want to see Gaudi's buildings and visit the Sagrada Familia - his famous basilica that he did not complete before he died. Rick bought tickets online to beat the queue and go the towers.
We are so central that it is only a 1/2 hr walk there.
Wow, wow, wow! The Basilica is amazing. Gaudi started building it in 1882 but died in 1926. He knew he would not finish the design and building of it. Jordi Bonet i Armengol has been overseeing the design and build of this church - using latest technology they have been able to interpret Gaudi's designs in to reality. They aim to complete the whole build by 2026.
The central nave is 45m high. It will have 12 towers when it is completed with the highest reaching 72m.
It's so organic in its design, fluid, whacky and everything tells a story. The columns inside represent palm trees. He uses stain glass and Venetian glass to reflect light, acoustically perfect. Gaudi was a genius - used a strong mathematical approach in design. Truly fascinating!!
So different to all the other churches we have seen.
We spend a few hours just in awe and then head to the beach for the last swim of our holiday.
Home early to pack ready for our long haul flight back!
