Day 6 - lazy days - finally started TET
Just looked at my GPS and cannot believe I only rode only 135 km today it felt like much more. However as my good friend Ronny said it was fun and was off rd or single track either bitumen or dirt surface though. According to the trail linesman who created the route allow two weeks to complete 3000 km that’s 214 km a day! Suppose that’s doable given I did not start till well after 1 pm ... and I did have several stops and a few dead ends through navigation errors.
I was riding slow and trying to follow a line on my GPS makes me really appreciate the Dakar riders who are riding at 160 km hr + and reading notes and navigating.
Last nights camp site was an Oasis and tonic that I really needed especially after the previous night. I arrived after 7 pm to a sign that simply said Complete or FULL. My heart sank and I started thinking about my other options - bivvy close, ride to another camp site ! This a case for Macgregor/Flint schmoozing big time! I parked up outside the gate took off my helmet and put on my fallorn (I’m b*****ed face which was not hard) and walked in the gate. I was immediately met by a attractive young woman who seemed over dressed for a camp site manager - she asked if she could help me? I said I was hoping to camp but see you are FULL! She asked are you on your own ? Yes i quickly replied. Then asked just one night - yes she said ok you can camp with the other bikers - just set yourself up and come to reception with your passport in a few minutes as there is a queue right now...
She also told me they never turn away bikers - not something you hear very often ...Sheer joy and elation is the only way I can describe the emotion I felt...
I slowly ride through the boom gate as lots of small children on push bikes crossed in front of me! Anyway they were all in bed HU 9 pm - so was I...
The Google reviews highlighted the excellent toilets them they seemed to have a full time cleaner and were mixed gender as the Euro way - on another level in quality & cleanliness compared to my previous night.
On checking in I was asked would I like bread or a full breakfast in the morning - and if I would like a drink a man would serve me in their cafe bar next door, this was more like a hotel than camp site!
Once set up and showered I went to the cafe to update my blog. The cafe shop sold all local produce sold bier locale
