Young Dragan is Cvita's son-in-law and he promised to take us to a spot on the Danube for a swim. Unfortunately it looked like the weather would break today so plans changed and we did a little bit of touring locally & picked plums for Cvita from his family's farm that sits on the edge of the Serbian Border on our side of the Danube.
After returning to his home, we met many of his family members who live either side of his place. One in particular was interesting as he was highly creative. He worked with wood and ceramics and had an extensive collection of his own paintings as well. Some of these were religious, many others were of local scenes and old houses in amongst vines or surrounded by bushland. His grandson lives with him and also paints with oils.
We headed home for lunch after having a coffee at Principovac which sits on the hill overlooking Ilok. Here there is a fountain, accommodation and a restaurant all part of the property belonging to the winery - Iločki Podrum.
The afternoon was spent relaxing in or by the pool.
In the evening we dropped in to visit Rođo, my cousin the cop, a huge mistake. He was fully tanked. Te neighbours had a christening & he was invited & he HATES a drink. We joined him & had a few drinks ourselves. All went well until he decided we needed to have some of his prosciutto. Into the smoke house we went, collected a fine leg of pork that was beautifully smoked. Imagine trying to get a drunken host to sit by while you carve the prosciutto with a blunt knife then successfully with an electric slicer. He is trying to be the ultimate host while I am trying to tell him that I am happy to carve the prosciutto. In the end we succeeded and enjoyed the tasty treat with a little more of Malden's delicious wine.
When night fell the sky opened up. There was thunder & lightening, wind and rain. We headed back home to Cvita's after the storm settled and Rođo successfully topped up. His shift tomorrow was from 7am - 7pm & all we could think about was if he had to breathalyse anyone they would most likely fail on his fumes alone.

Angela Callea Now you are talking! Prosciutto! You now have to make your own in Australia so we can taste the HART version!
Bozica Hart I need a smoke house. John also believes we need snow on the ground - that will be much harder.
