We have had a hectic few weeks since my last entry and I again wonder where the time goes.
After leaving Noosa we headed back to Banora Point where we parked our van at Jo’s and caught up with chores and visiting mum before heading to Robina for our Housesit. Our third visit here so the dogs know us now and enjoy our company as we do theirs. We met with the neighbours, had a good afternoon tea with them (thanks for the cake, Karen) and shared caravanning stories. More friends we hope to meet again on the road somewhere in this “great outdoors” We enjoyed our weeks of house sitting at Robina and have been asked to return and locked in for next year already!
We had a few more days back at Banora Point before heading off, this time heading south towards Narooma and a week with Emma, Graham, Josh and Ellie. As we were heading down the coast we decided to go the inland route, stopping at a free camp at Bendemeer before getting to the Coolah Jones for a couple of days. We were there for Ruby’s 3rd birthday which was celebrated with a morning tea party at the local park much to the delight of the girls and all their friends! (we had left our birthday present for Ruby to find when they get up to Banora in a couple of weeks time) On the Saturday we took Olivia for a sleepover with Milly at Brad and Lauren’s property where we enjoyed the company of this delightful family who we got to know over Easter at Jo’s place in Banora.
After looking after Ruby on the Monday while Olivia was at school and mum and dad were both at work we headed off the next day. First stop was Lake Wallace, just out of Lithgow. This is a beautiful free camp that we stayed at once before. That time was so cold and windy that it was too unpleasant to stay but this time the weather was much kinder to us, cold at night but beautiful sunny days. We had 2 nights there before travelling to Milton Showgrounds. Another place where we have stayed before. Next stop, Narooma.
We arrived at Narooma Big 4 around lunch time and had just set up camp as Emma, Graham and the kids arrived with their caravan. (The one we drove up to Tin Can Bay to get for them) It’s been too long since we have seen these guys and I’m looking forward to a great week. Jo, Phil, the girls and also Ray and Viv, the other grandparents arrived the next day, staying in a unit for a couple of nights. We are all together to celebrate Emma’s 40th birthday (It was also a good opportunity for us to congratulate Graham on becoming the principal of Boorowa Central School. Well done Mr Jones!)
We had a lovely time enjoying each other’s company, the facilities of the park and also Ray’s canoe. We all went to the club for a birthday dinner, huge meals and big ice creams for the kids.
On the Tuesday, Jo, Phil and the girls left to travel up to Banora Point for the rest of the school holidays. Phil was dropping Jo and the girls off at Sydney airport so they could fly up rather than the 14 hours drive that it took Phil, and he didn’t even leave the state of NSW. It’s again a reminder of how big this country is! Ray and Viv left the next day and then it was just the 6 of us left. We had some lovely warm days at the beach where Josh and Ellie got me making sandcastles. The week went too quickly and it was soon time to say our goodbyes as we went our seperate ways, Emma and family back to Boorowa and us down the coast. We have decided to head towards Wallington to catch up with our friends Dennis and Christine. These guys usually get away in their van for 3 months every year and we try and catch up but this year a series of unfortunate events has kept them at home so as the saying goes, if Mohammad can’t come to the mountain!!
After leaving Narooma we headed to The Merimbula Lake caravan park on the Princes Highway at Pambula, a basic but friendly park with lots of lorikeets and kangaroos. We spent 3 days over the October long weekend here driving around the area, eating local oysters and catching up on washing etc.
Now we are on the road again, into Victoria and much colder, wetter weather, (Yes, we’ve had real rain, something we haven’t seen for months!) heading towards Cann River and a free camp which apparently used to be an old caravan park. No power or hot water as you would expect from a free camp but the place has good reviews so we shall see.
