I think this has probably been the longest time between two entries on my blog out of all the many entries I have made and that’s been for two specific reasons. The first being that we have spent all this time around family, doing all the usual family things so not many new places and travel adventures to talk about this time.
The last entry saw us heading towards Emma and Graham’s where we spent time catching up and helping them plan their holiday. We shared our tassie adventures with them and gave them hints, ideas and opinions before they book their own trip over for Christmas 2021.
We had fun with the kids as usual with both bowling and the movies on the list along with trips to Macca’s and KFC. Well, what are grandparents for if not to spoil the grandchildren a bit? We don’t see enough of Josh and Ellie and love spending time with them both. We also met Coco this trip. Coco is Ellie‘s kitten, she is a little character and spoilt rotten.
As we left Boorowa we slowly headed up to Tweed Heads where we booked into Boyd’s Bay caravan park for two weeks. Now we are spending time with the Banora Point Jones with more spoiling of grandchildren and visiting my mum in Raffles age care. We went to our good friend Dorothy’s 94th birthday party and caught up with a lot of her (and our adopted) family, some of whom we hadn’t seen for a few years.
We then headed up to Noosa Heads where we housesat for my brother Simon’s neighbours. Our three weeks there went very quickly and was made special with Simon and Kerry organising a big family get together. Jo, Phil and the girls came up for the weekend along with my other brothers and their wives. With Kerry’s brother and his daughters there along with Justin and Lilah, it was certainly a full on, great family gathering.
This brings me to the second reason why we are still around the Tweed area and not tripping through western Qld with our friends as we had planned.
I have toyed with the idea of putting this, or not, into print but decided that it’s all part of our journey so here goes!
Before going to Noosa we had been to the doctor to get referrals for blood tests before getting our usual repeat prescriptions. The doctor we saw persuaded us both to do the bowel screening test at the same time.
We decided to wait until we got back from Noosa to do both tests. Anyway, my blood results were all out of whack and then the bowel test showed blood in all three samples. I have been through a barrage of tests and the good news is my heart is fine but the bad news is I have bowel cancer. I have a small nasty lump of about three cms which has to come out so on the 22/7 I will be going into hospital to have a reasonably big chunk of my large bowel removed. To say we were shocked is an understatement and it’s been quite an emotional roller coaster but I think we’ve just about got our heads around it. I am very positive and can talk and laugh about it all now. (That sick “Hewitt“ sense of humour has kicked in!)
This is all happening so quickly and from A to Z (I’m not saying A to B because Z is going to be the end of all this!) being when I got this horrible news to when I go into hospital it will only be four weeks. Of course there will be a time of recovery but after that we will be off again. At least that’s the plan. We can’t wait to get back out there travelling around this beautiful country.
At the moment we are about an hour and a half away from Tweed down the coast at Evans Heads. We’re here for two weeks before my op and have had Olivia and Ruby with us for a few days. They are a good distraction and we all always love the sleepovers in our van but now they’ve gone home and peace reigns again!
I’m hoping that my next blog will have good news but what will be, will be. (I’ve said that a lot lately!) so to anyone out there reading this, take care, be good to each other and I’ll see you on the other side! 😀
