You saw my beautiful photo of the junction of the Bosphorus, Golden Horn and the Marama sea from our hotel in Istanbul and our hotel view today on Facebook, so I am using the photo from Taksim Square in Istanbul today. It is undergoing repairs at he moment so not so attractive but it is the crowds that impressed me! Istanbul has 12 million population and the whole country 17 million + 2 million Syrian refugees. We saw many in the streets and parks, sad and frightened children - What is NZ doing? Turkey is putting the world to shame. We did the necessary tourist sites yesterday, including the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace, St Sophia and the Grand Bazaar (Mary was nearly sold a leather jacket) before concluding the tour with a farewell dinner. Sad to say goodbye to many good companions. A trying day today - hotel to hotel 6 hours - but resting up now. I hope to find time to fill in some of the missing blogs!
