Our hotel tonight is in the town of Kalambarka in the Meteora area of northern Greece famous for its monasteries that sit atop large rocks (five of them)'
I had to pause this entry to go to dinner, so here is a little more information about the day. Along trip on windy roads over several mountain passes to reach the plains of Thessalonia then north to the monasteries which are still in active use, two nunneries and three monkeries. All in full Greek Orthodox mode, but really must be seen as profitable businesses on the tourist trail judging by the numbers of bus loads there each day. There is nothing much I don't know about Greek iconography now. Dinner and poolside chat afterwards with our travelling companions, almost all Americans and at least five doctors,al. Good sorts and most friendly. Last day tomorrow before we all head our different ways.
