We left Cairns with no problems and headed out for a set of long days. We spent three days in a row driving 12 hours each day through absolutely nothing. It's amazing how little there is out here. Occasionally there is a little roadhouse you can go in and use to pee, but other than that, nothing.
Our first day out we stopped for lunch and there were all these bright green ants everywhere. I have never seen anything like them. Sarah said that if you eat them they taste like lemon...so figuring I should give it a go she killed one for me ('cause they bite) and I popped it in my mouth. I know it sounds crazy, but they are super lemony...very weird!
We had a bush camp one night where we simply pulled up along side the road and thrw up the tents. There were no showers or toilets, so we had to just go in the outside. It was alright, though not something I would want to do on a regular basis.
Last night we were in Litchfield National Park, which has these gigantic termite mounds (like the one in the photo). I am personally not a big fan of termites, but the mounds were pretty cool.
Tonight and tomorrow I am going to be in Darwin. We are in a hostel, which means a real bed (well, a plastic matress anyways) and a room. It will be totally nice, though the last of them for the rest of the trip. From here on out we are camping the whole way. Shouldn't be too bad though...I am a master at putting up tents now :-)
