Hi evryone,
just a quick update, we've finally managed to get our photos from Cambodia and Vietnam so far up on the blog! Justthe small matter of 508 photos for you to peruse at your leisure!
Since we last updated you in Ho Chi Minh City, we have spent a day at the Cu Chi tunnels, used by Vietnamese guerilla fighters during the American war. We got to crawl through a couple 100m worth of the tunnels, a vast network of living spaces & fighting tunnels underneath the jungle floor. We also saw some of the primitive but deadly booby traps used by the Vietcong, certainly what you'd called making the best of the resources at your disposal! At the Ben Thang market in Ho Chi Minh City, we saw some local delicacies which included live skinned frogs (as apposed to skimmed frogs - just another Zoeism!), and all manner of disgusting looking live animals fresh for eating!
From Ho Chi Minh we took an overnight sleeper train to Nah Trang, a loveley beach resort on the the Easto coast of Southern Vietnam. After the 5am arrival we grabbed a couple of hours kip and hit the beach. Only 1pound to higher a shaded sun lounger for the day so we made the most of it, and had a bit of a swim in the sea. A swim that was abruptly aborted when a large decapitated dog washed up on shore, and we watched as the tourism police spend 10minutes trying to dig a resting place for the poor thing right there on the beach, before giving it up as a bad job and carting the thing off in a wheelbarrow! That night we hit the town and Lee got pretty drunk on free shots. Despite leaving a bar around the corner from the hotel (less than a 5minute walk), he spent half an hour walking around in circles, trying 3 times to get in a taxi, including once smack outside the hotel!
From Nah Trang then we took another overnight sleeper train (in a lower class cabin than the one's you'll see in the photos). There were no sheets or pillowcases to put on the leather matresses, so we used our sleeping bag inners for the 1st time since getting here. By the time we finally dared to try and sleep we had notched up 27 cockroaches splattered in a matter of 2 hours. To say we were a little bit tired this morning would have been an understatement! Anyway, were off to make the most of the pool at the hotel and have a chilled afternoon.
Hope you're all well.
Unitl next time, Love Lee & Zoe x x x
