Bangkok.
Our second day away from the UK!
1. Book train ticket.. Bangkok - Chiang Mai
2. Visit Grand Palace
3. Go via Tuk Tuk
4. See Big Buddha
5. Get train!
So we did all that we wanted to do, only that it was a little harder because the Queen's sister, Princess Galyani Vadhana died earlier that day - it just meant that we had to visit the Grand Palace later.. it was only open to Thai people from 12 - 2 I think! So, we spoke to one of the guides outside the palace and he told us what to do! And we did, we travelled by tuk tuk, which was driven by a driver in a dark blue shirt (this means they are paid by government, therefore.. they're cheaper!)
Today, we saw the Big Buddha and the Grand Palace.. The driver also took us to a couple of other shops.. still don't know why we went to them.. but it only cost the same either way.. 25 baht - only about 50p - for a two/ three hour tour around Bangkok! Apparently the government was giving away cheaper petrol today?! Not sure!
Afterwards, we went to the Grand Palace.. it's so big and.. so intricate! After visiting the Grand Palace, we went to the hostel by taxi, went to eat in an Italian, collected our bags then went to Central Station- it was a bumpy and uncomfortable ride with me and Em + two rucksacks and two other bags..... in a one metre squared area!
One thing I forgot to say... when we went to book our tickets for the train, we also booked three days down in Krabi to go snorkelling, kayaking and see the beaches!
Now, the train journey! Hmm, not exactly the most pleasant of experiences I've ever had! I didn't find it so bad because I actually managed to get quite a lot of sleep! However, I don't think the same can be said for Em! Everyone on the train was so loud in the morning and the people who were sleeping above us wanted to sit at their table to (where they wanted to sit was where I was lying.... so I launched me and my bag onto Em's bed!)
Oh, and the train broke down.. so it took 17h 30m! Not amused.
