Zoe and Ed's Travels
We are in Auckland, having nearly come to the end of our time in New Zealand. Since our last postcard we have been exploring Northland, the far north of the North Island. We have visited the kauri forests, home to some truly enormous trees (up to 5m trunk diameter). We got severely rained on exploring the forests in extremely short bursts. The weather improved markedly for our visit to the Bay of Islands, where we did a boat cruise around the bay and Zoe swam with the dolphins (in the wild and everything!). The water was a bit cold, though. (Note to self: do this in summer.) Yesterday we had to drive an extra 35 miles to find a campsite with SKY TV so that we could watch the England match (at 3am; we are on the wrong side of the world). We landed on our feet, however, as the campsite we ended up at had an on-site thermal pool fed by the local hot springs, so we had a dip before dinner.
Tomorrow is our last day here before we fly to Tonga. Apparently we're heading there just in time for the biggest festival of the year, which is a complete fluke but could be good. Watch this space.
