Mountain socks keep out the snow. Likewise sensible boots. Balaclavas atttract attention. Burberrys are for show, but a Burberry scarf is fine. A woollen hat, or collection of woollen hats, is very useful as you lose the largest amount of body heat through the head. Fingerless mittens make it easier to type on a keyboard. With a fur coat you can wear the minimum clothing once you enter the over-heated building; that's the Swedish mode. Wind chill is very bad when you get wet: gortex is best.
