Wednesday the 29th of may - Amy and I are back in Gainesville, FL for the moment. After being sick for a month we finally decided that it was time to retreat to a comfort zone.
When we left "the place" in Damascus, VA, I was not totally better from whatever was ailing me, but i was feeling better after a few days of antibiotics. So after a week off the trail we finally started walking. All was well for a bit but it was apparent that I was not yet healthy. Three days of walking brought us to Marion, VA. We zeroed so that i could attempt to find a doctor.
After being fed up with doctors in podunk towns the size of a wad of spit we made a big decision. Since there were no doctors to take me we hopped on a Greyhound and took a 19 hour ride in hell back to Florida. After two days on a Greyhound bus I was doubting that we made the right decision, but i guess two days on a Greyhound would make someone doubt their religion. Besides getting a bus home seeing a doctor here and getting a bus back out would still be cheaper than going to an ER.
We arrived back in town yesterday evening and today i saw a doctor and am waiting on lab results so we can get this fixed up. While we are here we are trying to make some money and catch up with friends and other people of the sort.
As bad as it is I guess its nice to come home for a break. It is going to be absolute glory to be able to recover in a place I call home. So we are making the best of it and are hoping to get back on the trail soon. There might not be enough time to finish the rest of the trail but either way we're at least going to finish the season.
So here we are back in the "real world" as we call it out on the trail, and hoping to catch up with everyone while we are in town and then its back to the good life.
Dirt, cold, rain, exhaustion, peanut butter...I miss it already.
