Hello everyone!!!
Been a while (internet is expensive in the states!)
So since we landed we've had a quick look around West Hollywood (not seen much just some shopping malls etc as we only had one day bbefore heading out of the city (but we will be back soon to check out the walk of fame and the big sign etc dont worry!)
On Friday we picked up our car (in much better shape than our purple beast in NZ, we have a new Ford Taurus with cruise control and everything (that makes Tom happy cos his feet hurt less!) and headed out the city (a bad idea to do that on Friday afternoon as the freeways are chocablock). That evening we stopped in Barstow (mmid way to Vegas) in a motel. Barstow is just a town full of fast food and petrol stations as far as we could see, so not much to report.
On saturday we arrived in Vegas, we stayed in a Hotel/casino (Main St Station) in downtown, a nice old style place with good food and beer and atmosphere. That afternoon we decided to check out the strip - by walking there - bad idea in 40 degree heat as its further than it looks - about 5 miles we think! and then Yvette told Tom about the cheap buses that run every 5 minutes. 'I forgot...' is the only excuse...
Saw lots of the big name casinos that day such as Mirage, Treasure Island, Venetian, Paris, Statosphere.... lots of money to be spent if you have it (we dont so we didnt!)
On Sunday we took the bus to the south end of the strip to check out the casinos we couldnt make it to the day before (MGM Grand, Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York, Bellagio etc.). We went on the roller coaster in NYNY (twice!) which was very cool but scary. Saw the volcano outside the Mirage and the fountains outside Bellagio and the gondolas outside venetian.
On monday we again took the bus down to the strip, for a free craps lesson, rated a movie trailer and TV show pilot, saw the Lake of dreams in Wynn Casino, missed the treasure island sirens show because of a slight breeze they chickened out and cancelled the show (twice!!), saw lions and tigers in different casinos and headed home for late night drinks...
This morning we set off late (after buffet lunch), and after winning $5 on the slot machines!!! - then it was off over the Hoover Dam (damn thats big) to Flagstaff ready for a drive out to the Grand Canyon tomorrow.
Had to be brief as people waiting for computer,
love to all,
Yvette and Tom
