Hi chi Minh is a big well developed city but we actually found it really dirty and smelly.
After arriving at about 6pm that night with very little sleep behind us. We got some food from NY pizza slice and snacks from the mini mart and settled down in our beds for a girlie night in watching a film and chatting. We booked a tour for the next day to see the famous Cu Chi tunnels from the Vietnam war.
Our guide that day was a crazy old man who had stories coming out of his ears, he said he was there and even though he was Philippine he fought for America. Don't know if half his stories were true or not but they were quite interesting! On the tour we got shown typical hiding places, the traps made and used, what the bunkers looked like and how to shoot a M16 rifle which Natalie and Kirstie did because you could only go in pairs unfortunately. At the end we then had the chance to go through the Tunnels. We walked down the first steps underground and Natalie had an instant panic and ran back up. I crawled through the first section with Kirstie then got out at the first opening. Kirstie went through to the end. We were waiting for her and had heard someone passed out in there and was like... Oh no.... Luckily it wasn't Kirstie and she came out like 10 minutes later sweaty and tired! It was a really interesting day of learning but sad too. I think the most interesting thing was understanding all the tricks that they had used to catch or deter the enemy. It's definitely worth a visit.
It had been chucking it down all day so we didn't do much else after. At night we went out to a restaurant and then came home. (Yes that's we called each place we stayed at - home) Kirstie had started feeling ill at this point.
The following morning it was time to say goodbye to Vietnam. A great country in terms of tourism and there is plenty to see and do in each place you visit.
