Back on the bus again, getting a bit bored of always travelling even if it is only short journeys! The problem wih Magic is heading into winter season, you have to stick to the bus timetable and some days buses don't run so you have to plan your trip so you don't end up stuck somewhere! Only a 2 hour drive today we are going back to Taupo, it was so beautiful when we went we wanted to see more but before we didn't have the time but this time we have two full days!!!
We tried to get into the extremely popular and free Internet hostel but again it was fully booked so we had to settle for YHA! It felt weird being back in the same place we had been already, felt liked we already knew the place!
We had a lovely 4 man dorm and we were sharing it with two lovely guys Louis and Casey! The weather this time around wasn't as great, unfortunately the cyclone that had hit Fiji was causing havoic with NZ weather! The change in the climate had lead to me getting a bad cold and to add to this my wisdom teeth that were not supposed to come through were at last wise enough to show...these are painful!!
Not feeling up to much we watched a few movies and did some much needed blogging while we waited for the rain to pass. We felt sorry for the guys they had planned to skydive here too but with all the bad weather it was being called off, they were asked to keep waiting and waiting but everytime it looked hopefully they would go to the air field and be sent back after a few hours! We, I was so gratefully that Hana had made a firm descison and we had skydived during the perfect weather before.
The bad weather had cancelled our hope of doing the famous trekk over the active volcanos. It was reported that snow was coming in and serve winds! It was ashame I was hoping to be able to say I had walked over the mountain that became famous as "mount doom" from LOTR (Lord of the Rings!)!
So later that day once the rain had stop we walked down to the lake that was actually a super volcano. Many many years ago it had erupted so violently it actually ended up collapsing into itself, over the years it filled with water. Even today it remains an active volcano and at the deepest part of the lake it can reach temeratures of 40oC+! But not at the surface that is still cold!!! We walked around until we had a little treat..... We indulged in a cream tea, embarrasingly but not suprisingly they called this scones with cream and jam and didn't understand our order until we broke it down but they had free wifi. So a hour passed and we made up for the drinks in internet usage and headed back to our dorm to check on the boys!
They still hadn't jumped and been cancelled off until the next day, we went for a few cheeky drinks at the Irish bar we had visited before for some true cider pints before it was time to call it a day!
The next morning the weather started off looking good but it was so unpredictable no sooner had you taken your jumper off you were putting on your rain coat and running for cover. Still we decided it would be fun to hire a scooter for the day, but saving the pennies we decided we would only need the one. We set off on Rosie to explore our surroundings doing a few important stops then shooting off at snail speed to see some sights. We went back to Huka falls and to a honey shop. We found out that bees, that I was sure really looked like wasps were an essential part of NZ life to help pollenate! We tried some weird honey before the heavens opened and we had to return to base to recharge my batteries and get dry.
We did some more exploring before the novelty wore off and we just got very wet. So we watched another great choice of film by me, treated ourselves to some washing machine washing and cooked an amazing dinner that took noodles to another level!!
Back in the room the boys were super excited they had done their jump in a small window of perfectness but were crashing from the adreline and allitude so we just chilled out talked and played cards before we all passed out! Thank you again thou for giving us your duvets,we were both super cold and needed some warming up!!
No early start tomorrow so another chilled out wake up... Perfect!!!
