Ok........so here goes........the story so far unfolds............
What a crazy time we have had so far...Bali is awesome!! we have had so many cultural and mind blowing experiences!! thank you for all your blogs they mean so much when your sooo far away!! nice to know your thinking of us and for us to think of home....well occationally lol!! slightly difficult for us to write back to everyone as were getting frustrated and ripped off at every opportunity we have to use the internet (either too slow, charging too much or cannot find anywhere convienient!!) but you know we love you all loads!! Mwah x X
Ok so again, here goes........ we'll give you an insight into our journey so far...hope you get to expereince Bali through us or even understand how this little Island is soooooo worlds apart from the way we live and the small town of Risca!!
Extract 1,
Maddi, our extreamly cheap and cheerful tour guide meets us bright and early for a day of Island Adventures.....we explain that we only want to see real Bali and he gives us just that.............
We head for a hindu religous dance (Barong Krista) that is practiced every morning by balinese people...we are reminded that Balinese dancing is very important to Balinese people and is practised daily by girls as young as 3 years old.......we were very impressed and enjoyed the show very much it was extreamly colourful and cultural experience........next we stopped at a silver and gold jewellery house where young girls around sixteen were making silver and gold jewellery...... we were reminded once again how cheap labour is in Bali and how we should fight for fairtrade!! soooooo we couldn't leave without buying a little something......lol!! continuing our drive through the moutain we stopped at a group of young boys bathing naked in the river....although at the time we found this amusing we come to realise this is everyday life in Bali! we stopped to take a picture and they all came running to us....shouting MONEY MONEY!!....they knew no other English lol!! we gave them about 5p and they we sooo happy. After this we stopped in the middle of a village to take a pic at an authentic car that had been made over many years and was being sold for only 1000 pounds...its was fabulous...so much work...take a look at the pic.........next we were taken to look at some Art...Amazing and again being sold for silly money!! Zoe you would love it and we've taken many pics just for inspiration for you classes and your students!! we were drievn to a hindu temple were we were made to wear sarongs and a band around our middle...again we realised how important religion is...we found it rather inspiring that many young children as young as 2 were meditating!! Finally we got to the top of the mountain with breath taking views and many gypsy mountain people!! it was soooooo.......well you'll see by the pics!! lol we ended this day trip with a visit to the rice fields were again we saw that Balinese people work soooo hard for sooo little....but are happy:)!! we should take some tips!!! in the evening we ate noodles!! again!!
Extract 2
We were taken out again in the evening by Maddi........we arrived in Kuta......the more commericail part of Bali...many Australian surfers.....Balinese people......selling...selling....selling.....we found thisa very different experience to the real Bali! however we did find PACHA!! later on that evening we were taken to Jimbaron where we were invited to pick our own seafood and eat on the beach by candlelight!! very romantic!! lol
Extract 3..........the biggy!!!
We started our day bright and early and packed our things for an overnight stay at Maddis village....well actually just 2 towels!!...we headed for the North which took approx 3 hours..... as we entered the mountains we were surrounded by monkeys...we got out and fed them bananas but they were a little wild!! literally! we then headed for a waterfall, which at the time we thought ok...well we've seen plenty...after a half an hour treck.....we came to a 25m waterfall which was breath taking!! sooo amazing! we loved it!! from here we headed through many small balinese towns and arrived at Holy Springs....hot water running into pools from the mountains...Balinese people belive that they can heal them when they become unwell...they were ceratinly and experince Donna will not forget as they turned her fingers nails orange!! lol at the sprigns many small children were begging and many animals being kept on ropes....we didnt really like that part but hey it was all part of the experience....ok so next we loved the Buddist temple.... the one few Buddist temples in Bali......so peaceful and tranquil....we again had to cover our legs....we prayed to........well we prayed!! it was a very humbling experience and the grounds and temples themselves were stunning!! sooo much work!! Finally we arrived in Maddi's small village called Poh Pagong, we bought his parents sugar and loads and loads of sweets for the village children.......what an experience....we will never ever forget...for 24hrs we became Balinese!! we arrived at what appeared to be three small brick buildings in the middle of the rainforest...the river flowing to the left.... Maddi's father welcomed us by picking fruit from the tree and his mother brought us black balinese coffee...real balinese coffee in glasses.... Maddi's hous was a brick building with two ajoining rooms both had beds inside...there was little cutlery and possesions....next door was Maddi's uncle and aunty and their granchildren... their daughter had run off with another balinese man and they were left looking after the children they appeared around sixty years old!! no retirement in Bali lol!! the house fater that again belonged to family, we were given a dinner of noodles, rice and fresh chicken (killed in front of us) nobody spoke English and very few had met any tourist before the children becam mesmerised by us and we ended up making fantastic freindships with them....Maddi expalined that we were very lucky to have had a chicken and that his parents had gone all out by sending for spices from the village.....we felt very privillaged!! after dinner we went next door to use the toilet....well hole in the floor...and we spent an hour or so with the children who kept appearing out of no where..... we allowed them to take pictures and had sooo much fun posing and getting them to pretend to be models!! yes all with this great language barrier!! we somehow didn't even think about it.......Maddi came around then to explain that we should go next door and have a drink....they rolled out this great big carpet and we all sat down the alcohol...nuts and sweets in the middle.....many of the village people came around we all sat and drunk a balinese drink called ARACK 40% we will not forget....it was drunk it shots with coke...and yes it burnt the back of our throats badly however once we'd had one.....we were well on our way through 3 bottles....singing Bob Marley laughing and joking with both the adults and the children......we couldn't tell they were having so much fun!! beacuse we were also....after Donna gets on the motorbike to go to somebody's house to get another bottle....we kinda dont remember much more.........only waking in the middle of the night to be given cocunut milk....we later found out that Maddi had woken his father to climb a cocunut tree in the middle of the night!! in the mornign around 7am we woke and were given coffee which we very much needed!! we felt soooooo bad!! the children and the villlage people laughed when we evenually made it outside....however we wern't the only ones Maddi's uncle spent the entire morning in bed and was late for his work at the rice fields!! lol!! we were given a breakfast of black rice with cocunut (balinese kicks) it tasted like rice pudding, Maddi explained that it was a special treat in their village....we thanked everyone for our stay and gave them everything we had to give (cotton buds, razors tootbrush etc) we hugged the children and said our goodbyes........we then slept the entire way to our next destination!!!
Swimming with the Dolphins!! whoop whoop!!
we were sooo excited but still sooo hung over!! we were given instructions and literally jumped right in we swam with two young male dolphins named Jack and John.....they were very excited and we were told that they fully understood we were young female woman....the experince was crazy!! very emotional and at one point Donna shed a few tears laughing also as she didnt know why!! lol Lucy also had an experience..............well shall we just say John got a little excited and would not be getting dinner that day....this frightened Lucy a little as it was quite painful and kinda shocked her as she was not prepared for this!! the instructor took lucy into a seperate pool with an older female Dolphin called cute!! she was amazing so calm she allowed you to kiss her and feel her as well as taking Lucy for a ride whilst holding on her fin!! an experience well worth encountering!! we also got to see sharks....turtles....and tropical fish!! we left the Dolphin centre and slept the entire way home!! we allowed ourselves a duvet day with channel 'E 'and ordered in a Mac y D's to be delivered straight to the room.....ummmmmmm....hangover cured!!
After these few adventures days we decided to take it easy......chilling out by the pool and back to Noodles for tea!! lol.....we couldnt uplaod all the pics that we wanted today as its taken and hour and a half to upload just 18!! hopefully well get them on here in the next few days......keep posted!!
