World Tour 06
ladies and gentlemen, its that time again!
the past two weeks have been thoroughly action packed and we are sorry that the updates have been few ans far between but weve been to busy in the great outdoors to be wasting time on the internet. we started off in Auckland, celebrating Sams birthday and hatching a plan for our time in NZ. we discovered that we had insufficient time to take part in a backpackers tour, though they seemed expensive anyway so we discovered that the cheapest way for us to get around would be to hire a car, and the folks of new zealand were daft enough to give us one. so after birthday celebrations we picked up our Daewoo Nubira a.k.a Tina and hit the road. we drove to Rotorua which gave a distinct first impression of smelling like someone had popped one off, we discovered that it was the smell of sulphur from the hot spring and unfortunately it never really goes away. rotorua was the destination for the first of our death defying activities and so we hit the water early for a session of white water rafting and river sledging. we rafted the worlds highest commercially raftable waterfall which wa 7metres high. poor ali was in the ejector seat and when the boat resurfaced from the water, ali didnt. fortunately he was just behind us with a big grin so he hopped back in and we paddled on. river sledging was similar to body boarding but down a river with flippers and and was great fun as well. unfortunately youre not allowed to go over the waterfall on the sledge. pity.
we then made our way down the north island passing through places such as Taupo which was meant to be the destination for our skydive but that was cancelled because it was pouring with rain. which was truly disappointing as we had all been looking forward to it. unphased, we carried on the whistle stop tour of this beautiful country and made our way to Wellington which is the capital and we spent a couple of days there before getting on the ferry to the south island. the south island is the real scenic part of NZ and where the did the majority of filming for lord of the rings. with tina as our guide we mananged to see some spectacular sights including mountains, rivers, lakes, beaces the sea and most things in between. we saw some amazing mountain ranges and in particular we saw the famous Fox glacier( although we couldnt afford to go on the tour). we eventually made our way to Queenstown where we are now which happens to be the adventure capital of the world. when in rome! Yesterday the four of us did Nevis, which is the highest bungee jump in NZ(2nd highest in the world), which was breathtakingly scary and unbelievable fun. the feeling of flying was fantastic as we had and 8 second freefall. the bungee is 134m tall which is higher than the eiffel tower. quite an achievement. today we did a canyon swing which is essentially a bungee jump but rather than going up and down there is a 60m freefall followed by a 200m swing. and we did it backwards!!(also ali did a backflip, nutter!) were here one more night then we are driving to christchurch to say farewell to tina and NZ, and head to Fiji. its a hard life i know, but someones got to do it. anyone thinking of visiting NZ, do it! its definately been one of our highlights and we would encourage everyone to come. farewell for now. see you in Fiji.
