Once again the drive itself was amazing (from Puerto Natales to Tierra del Fuego). The roads are both paved and gravel and there is very little traffic on the way. The views across the steppes should have been boring by now and at least tedious...but they were not. Watching Guanaco running wild, seeing Rheas, Eagles, Condors and Llama, and as we arrive in Tierra del Fuego, just 5 minutes after crossing the Strait of Magellan Pink Flamingos in their 100s and 1000...

Well it is 4 January today and since leaving Bariloche we have had wind, sleet, rain and snow and now some sunshine as well. We have been in FitzRoyNational Park, El Chalten for the last four days with three nights camping (per photos). Cerro Fitz Roy is an amazing mountain, a massive granite soaring into the Andes and one of the most challenging climbs for serious climbers in the world. A long bus ride from Buenos Aires to Bariloche, at 19 hours...but it went quick enough. Across the Pampas was both inspiring and monotonous, if that is possible. At one point we went over an hour on the same straight piece of road, with no bends or corners at all. The scale of the landscape is pretty dramatic, with semi desert and arid areas, as well as fast flowing rivers and forests. Arriving in Bariloche we are surrounded by mountains and lakes and great beech...

The bus ride from Iguacu to Buenos Aires was great. Very comfortable and took bang on the predicted 16 hours. Strange, after all it only seems a few inches on my map! Dead impressed, it was more like flying 1st Class than a bus, as the seats reclined from very padded and comfortable seats to full length single beds, so we managed to get a full nights sleep. Dinner and breakfast was provided, along with wine, however the legendary whisky night cap did not appear, ...

Well, we made the bus trip from Sao Paulo to Foz Iguacu then got ourselves across the boarder to Puerto Iguacu in Argentina. Bus trip was 16 hours but flashed by in pretty comfortable buses, although Anni was contemplating the quiet slitting of snorting man's throat in the middle of the night (not me I hasten to add)!
