Well, we are now in our 5th country of our trip!
We spent the last 4 days in Lake Titicaca exploring both the Bolivian and the Peruvian sides.
We stayed at the Copacobana on the Bolivian side and took a boat tour to the Isla de Sol where we decided to hike across the island. Sounded easy enough, however, you have to take in the fact that at some points we were at 5000m! It took us about 2 1/2 hours to walk 17km! Being the bright sparks that we are, we forgot to take food etc, so we were absolutely knackered and starving by the end of it.
It was tough going, but worth it and great practice for the Inca Trail!
We then crossed the border to Peru where we stayed in a town called Puno and took yet another boat tour to visit more islands. This time we saw a floating island which was completely man made of reeds. It was brilliant to see, however, it felt a little like a human zoo, which is something we are not comfortable with.
The second island Taquile is a Unesco hertiage site where the locals still wear traditional dress and the blokes walk around knitting!
The island was completely unspoilt by modern life, but again, was a bit zoo like!
On the Peruvian visit, Chris convieniently ´forgot´our money, but I think it was a ploy so I couldn´t spend anything!
We really enjoyed Bolivia, but we were definately ready to leave, after a while, the rickety buses, poor organisation and erratic showers take their toll!
We are currently in a beautiful city called Arequipa towards the coast of Peru. We did not initially intend to visit here, but there was a road block between Puno and Cuzco, so we´ve had to make a little detour.....which will take 1 night and 16 hours of bus travel!
Tonight, we catch our bus to Cuzco, it should hopefuilly only be 10 hours, and thankfully the Peruvian buses appear to be in better condition than their Bolivian counterparts.
We are getting quite excited about the Inca Trail trek which we start on April 3rd!
It´s one of the main reasons we came to South America!
......I hope this blog gets 5 stars this time (whoever is marking us!!!)
