There's a 'capsule wardrobe' laid out on the bed, carefully chosen by my fashion advisor Kiri. Having reduced my haphazard 'stock-pile' by about a third, I'm hoping that this 'look' Kiri has suggested, will stand me in good stead as we travel the length and breadth of NZ, ending up in Sydney, Australia, before finally heading home at the end of the month.
All that remains for me to do now is hope that it all fits into my 100 litre lime green kit bag and doesn't exceed the 30 kilo luggage allowance.
Apart from fashion and packing advice, the purpose of this blog is to a) update family and friends on our whereabouts and b) serve as a reminder of our once in a lifetime experience.
It's a standard blog, using a simple site that can be updated easily by iPhone on a regular basis. (WiFi permitting)
It will be a collection of notes, observations, stories, encounters and collected miscellany. They may be short, sharp jottings or alcohol fuelled ramblings that wax lyrical about some 'amazing' sight, sound, smell, taste or feeling we (principally I) have experienced.
It will be a record of our expedition and will function as a personal archive, standing as a testament to our travel adventure. It will contain my anecdotal and (hopefully) humorous musings collected as we wander aimlessly, without obligation or pressure, 'wool gathering' as it were, exploring and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Yes, we shall follow the 'normal path' but we will also be taking quiet steps off to the side, to pay attention to the peripheries.
I hope you enjoy my blog and please do leave a message to say that you stopped by.
