As we hadn't been to Singapore before we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. Here are five of the best things about Singapore.
The night safari- this is a unique experience, standing right behind a sleeping leopard while hearing lions growl in the background. And otters playing with their kitts. The humans were interesting to watch as well. When they saw an interesting animal they cooed like chickens!
The Arab quarter - lots of interesting carpet and fabric shops to wander by as well as a good range of eating places and bars. Very colourful with lots of the old colonial shop houses and great for people watching.
The water front, Marina Bay - one of the most impressive water fronts we've seen with sky scrapers of all shapes and a good collection of colonial buildings. The most ridiculous building has to be the Sands complex consisting of three tower blocks with what looks like a boat on top out of which grow palm trees.
Little India at night - an old part of town with loads of busy curry houses, temples and shops. At night the streets are lit up with colourful lights and decorations.
Sipping gin slings at Raffles Hotel . A step back into colonial Singapore in this delightfully calm haven and drink a refreshing cocktail. The gin sling bears no relation to our gin and tonic, it does have gin in it and lots of other things including pineapple. We probably wouldn't drink it in the UK but in Raffles court yard on a hot Saturday afternoon it was perfect.
Some surprising things about Singapore;
Cleanliness of everywhere
cars give way to pedestrians
lovely breeze to stop you getting too hot.
All in all we've had three fantastic days exploring by foot. Now off to Auckland, New Zealand.

chrissie You are obviously coping well with the jet lag!
Haze Seems perfect - now onto the next.....
Harriet I think it's more a matter of coping without sleep than jet lag. The first day in Singapore was hard as we arrived at 8 am but we made it through to 8 pm with just little siesta (if you can have those in Asia?).
Chris and Brian We're off to collect our currency today as we'll be hot on your heels! Sounds like everything has got off to a great start. Pleased to hear about your recommendations - the night safari and Raffles could well be on our list! Lots of love. C & B. X
