We arrived late in to HCMC. The hostel was a total dive! This is clearly NOT the manner to which I am accustomed! Roo informs me this is normal?! Either my standards will have to drop *unlikely*, or I will be home sooner than expected having spent up on a better standard of living!!! The sheets were not clean and Roo and I shared a mattress on the floor with a single blanket to share- good job it was warm! We got up early and enjoyed our water melon, dragon fruit, stale toast and ants!!! Thankfully we had bought some sachets of nescafe for the caffeine fix! Foolishly we had paid up front for 2 night? Decided to take a tour of the Mekong delta and out to a remote island off the south coast Phu Quoc- commence operation extreme barter. It's fair to say Roo and I both, are typical ( tight fisted) Yorkshire girls we have been taught ( thanks dad) to always seek out a deal- regardless of the saving! So we headed for backpacker zone with belligerence! We found the deal we were after- it only took 2hrs of pounding the streets and negotiation- we saved ourselves 28Us$!!! Job done- to celebrate we decided to have a drink. Night had failed over HCMC. The city has a European feel. We made our way to the riverside in search of our reward. We wanted a glass of wine on a roof top over looking the city. We met some very well heeled lovely smelling, clean, blow dried, made up Vietnamese ladies in a lift who advised us where to go- the Sheraton Hotel 5* 23rd floor! Off we set with our 28$ saving burning a hole in our pockets. We arrived on the 23rd floor found a window seat and looked at the menu- £7 per glass of wine, £4 cocktail- no decision there then - we'll have one of each! We tried to take some pictures but clearly after a day pounding the streets followed by a glass of wine we were both incapable! My spack eye was our in force and we both ended up laughing hysterically much to the dismay of the staff! We staggered out $50 lighter!
