The show must go on! More assorted Oslo memories.
Georgia Opera House Party:
What's the best course of action to take after getting rather drunk off free wine by 3pm? To sober yourself up and head out to the Georgian Party, of course. Where you can then proceed to get even more drunk on even more free wine and whisky!
The Georgians - wanting to show off what a great nation they are - booked out the Opera House, probably the nicest building in Oslo, and then plied all guests with free food and alcohol. The Georgian Head of Delegation was absolutely fantastic, and she performed some really funky jazz before dancing away on the floor to the Eurovision music all night. And she had fab glasses! This is probably the blurriest night of all, and the next day was the only day I got a hangover of the whole trip, but it was so worth it!
Meeting Sarah Cawood at the Welcome Party:
The welcome party was kinda crappy, with the limit on guests meaning most of my friends couldn't make it. But I got to meet British TV presenter Sarah Cawood, who I used to be in love with. She was fabulous as ever, and I would be happy to give her a guided tour round Berlin next year.
Meeting Anna Bergendahl outside the toilets at the Welcome Party:
The other highlight of the official Welcome Party, was meeting sweet Swedish representative Anna Bergendahl. Me and Costas told her we were in Sweden to watch her win Melodifestivalen, and I told her I liked her song, but "Pernilla should have won". Her response of "Oh. Wow." was polite and sweet at the same time. But I stand by my comment. She also got a big hug "off" Thomas. She woz robbed!
Meeting random people in random places:
Met loads of new fabulous people over the course of the time - people I'll never forget and who I'm sure I will see again in the future at Eurovision and be able to pick things straight up with as if only days have passed.
Showing Lena my pants:
At the German/Ukrainian party, I finally got to see Lena up close. She sang Love Me, Touch A New Day and Satellite. Sadly, the dull German cameramen blocked the entire front row so she couldn't see us - her fans - very well. But right at the end of Satellite, I managed to squeeze past two of them and drop my pants. I got her attention and pointed towards my new blue underwear right at the end of the song, and the double take she did crossed with the look of horror when she noticed and faultered slightly singing her "love" made it all worthwhile. And apparently I knocked the cable of the German camera so some TV stations footage was ruined. They shouted at me lots. Haha.
The shows:
Supposedly, this was what it was all about. And watching the Semis in the stadium was fab. In Semi 1 we moved right up close to the front and danced to Finland before being asked to sit down. The other highlight was the Belarussian wings moment (videoed for posterity) and the only downer was Portugal qualifying. Semi 2 we chose Turkey to sing and dance in the aisle too, which was fantastic.
Sweden vs Ireland:
I loved the Swedish song and had my flag in support of Anna. She didn't qualify. But having the flag turned out to be a great chat up line.
I didn't really like the Irish song, but my friend wrote it, so it was the one I really wanted to qualify. And it did. And so I kissed some poor American girls in celebration.
Wine and sunrise:
Thanks to my Swedish flag, I ended up drinking wine with a Norwegian on a rooftop garden while watching the sun rise, and wearing a hat. Apparently the hat was to make us appear like we lived in Notting Hill or something. And my host had spoken to Camilla Parker Bowles on the phone once or something. It's all a bit blurry. But a nice blur.
The gasp:
When Svante revealed to the "Press" that there were only 2 points between 10th and 11th place in Semi 1, the collective gasp showed what a collection of freaky and faggy fanboys Eurovision-goers really are. It was funny. And yes I may be one of them, but I didn't gasp. Plus I already knew - I have good connections ;)
I was gonna try and make this my last Oslo blog entry, but there are just too many good times. Part 3 to come some time soonish I hope!
