The last leg of our journey took us into Argentina, beginning in Salta. Here, for the first time in months, we had a decent glass of wine and Giles had his first steak! From there we travelled down into the lovely wine region of Cafayate. It would´ve been rude not to try all the local wines so we hired some bikes and visited all the local vineyards... the journey there was easier than the journey back! After throwing our clothes out of our backpacks and filling them with wine, we wended our way down to Patagonia to visit Bariloche in the lake district.
So many people had recommended that we went to Bariloche and we weren´t disappointed. We rented a log cabin overlooking a beautiful lake and spent our days kayaking, mountain biking and even horse riding with the grandaughter of a real cowboy. Luckily for us, Bariloche is famous for its chocolate which is the perfect accompaniment with a glass of red wine. Doesn´t get much better than that!
We finally managed to drag ourselves away from Bariloche and made our way across Argentina to Buenos Aires, our longest bus journey yet! We stayed in the charming district of San Telmo where couples tangoed in the street, surrounded by little cafes and craft stalls. Giles and I decided to try our hand (or should I say feet) at the Tango and had a few lessons. We now have a new respect for the dancers, it is a very difficult dance to master, but we will persevere now I have my new tango shoes! It was the perfect place to spend our Christmas and we will definitely be going back...
Our next stop was Iguazu Falls, truly magnificent - look at the pictures, what more can I say!!
The final stop on our adventure was Rio where we spent New Year´s Eve dancing on the beach with 3 million other revellers! Great fun and the perfect way to end our three months.
We head home tomorrow and can´t wait to see you all. Until then, Feliz Ano Novo!!
Lots of love xxx
