I arrived in Koh Samui after getting the ferry, a bus, then another ferry, probably took about 6 hours in total, im getting a bit confused which journey was which having been to quite a few different islands now. I met 2 girls on the last ferry I got who were travelling Thailand for 6 weeks, only quite young. As I didn't have any accommodation booked I went with them to see if there were rooms available where they were staying. We spent a good while searching for their accommodation and I was about to give up and just find somewhere else because there are always plenty of rooms available wherever you go. We found it anyway and I was able to get a room there for 300 baht a night (about £6), Obviously very basic for the price but it was clean and had air con (of a fashion!). I think there are quieter parts, and maybe nicer parts in Koh samui but we were pretty much in the middle of it all, very busy and totally infected with tourism; all the things you find in England just with nice weather. There were also a lot of very bad smells which were enough to make you heave if you took a big breath at the wrong time. I went for tea that night with the girls I had met and went for a few drinks after, met another guy travelling so we all got chatting and played some pool. The girls where off to the full moon party and I wished them the best of luck the day after because they got so drunk when I was with them they will need to be very careful. The day after I went for a good walk around and went along the beach, one of the nicest beaches I had seen, just very populated. The main difference was the sea, everywhere else I had been to it had been very calm, but here there were big waves which were awesome. Had to be a bit careful when swimming out but I still had to go and play in the waves. One guy further down the beach got dragged out unconscious and had to go to hospital because a couple of waves had done him in. I met up with the girls again on the beach and again that night for something to eat, they wanted to go clubbing it but I was determined to get an early night conscious that I was travelling again the next day. I had an early start to, I was up at 6am and had to walk about a mile to get my transfer to the pier. When I woke up there was a very loud noise which I couldn't quite make out, it was only when I looked outside did see torrential rain and wind..this is when my waterproof first became an essential buy. So I walked the quiet streets of Koh Samui in reasonable comfort until meeting my transfer. On the ferry once again, this time to Koh Tao, my last island hop in Thailand. A smaller island not as populated and just the place you want to be if you like a stunning beach and some chill time. There is nightlife if you want it, but it's also just as easy to have a quiet one. The main beach where I landed on the west side was really nice the sand wasn't as good as Koh Samui but the atmosphere and the place in general well out weighted that.My accommodation was really nice, actually a diving resort called Asia Divers but my room was more than satisfactory, aircon, flat screen TV, free Wi-Fi and a nice view from my balcony - what more could you want?? Wanted to check out the whole island on my first day so rented a ped and went razzing round on that. Had a map so had an idea where I was going…what I didn't have an idea about was how bad the roads (if you can call them that) once you got off the main road. The obvious reason for this was because everyone gets round the island (to the other beaches) on long tail boats etc. Anyway I was happy with my unorthodox mode of transport, going down dirt tracks filled with rocks and to be honest just terrain that's not designed for a mo-ped. Managed to get to most of the places I wanted, got to a place called Sai Daeng beach on the south east of the island, by far the best beach I have seen in Thailand (if not ever). I think what made it was it was quiet, and in a little cove. I went snorkelling and saw some nice fish, including barracuda (which I never saw on my dive in Phi-Phi). A few people had told me that Koh Tao was the diving capital of Thailand, and whilst this was true, there wasn't much more marine life than on Phi-Phi, so I decided to save my pennies. Was conscious of getting back to Bangkok for the 17th so I started looking at travel options. I heard horror stories of an 10 hour bus journey from Chumphorn on the mainland to Bangkok taking over 20 hours! Not being fond of that idea I looked at some flights from Koh Samui to Bangkok, they were very expensive, and Air Asia don't fly from there either (who are usually the cheapest). Running out of options, I started to think I would need to opt for the bus option, however I saw a flyer in my hotel reception for a company doing a fast catamaran journey to Chumphorn then and a flight in small prop plane to Bangkok (all with the same company). It was cheaper than the flights and much quicker than a bus so I went for that it was about £60, which I was happy to pay really, seens I had also forfeited my scuba diving too. I was only meant to be on the island 2 nights but I booked a 3rd because I had a day spare, and I wouldn't of wanted to spend it anywhere else. Met an English guy called Joe really nice chap, worked in Radio for Talk sport and had also interviewed loads of famous people. He was out for the year potentially but he was quite home sick after just 3 weeks, I remember thinking, that won't be me. He said he was lonely and was dying for some action with the female species. Not able to help him with any of that we had a beer and I left him, and got an early night. Once again the morning brought really bad weather, as I approached the pier I realised just how bad. It was a proper storm, my catamaran couldn't even dock because it was too ruff, it was delayed due to this and a little seed got planted in my head about not making it back to Bangkok in time for my Sydney flight. Eventually the boat docked, and sporting my invaluable waterproof once again, I got pretty much blown onto the boat. I was definitely not prepared for what this journey was going to bring. No more than a minute after we set off the waves were about 15 foot high (that is no joke), maybe more, looking around the other passengers I could tell I was not alone thinking my life was going to end, and quite frankly absolutely s***ting myself. The only thing you could hear on the boat was people being sick, so many people it was unreal, some screams and tears (none of that from me, s***ting myself was about all I was going to offer the storm). The journey was 2 hours and at times I really thought we were going to go over. There were 2 German girls next to me, one was sick and I held the other ones hand because she was so scared. I kept telling her it would be okay whilst thinking, I hope your swimming is above average. I kept looking at the crew and thinking if they stop smiling then I will be really worried. Obviously im here to tell the tale and I made it in one piece to Chumphorn. Then to the airport, which is very new, there was only one plane there, and im on it now. A very small prop plane, where everyone gets a window seat. Quite choppy but after that boat journey if anything did happen I'd probably plummet to the ground with a big smile on my face.haha. Not long left of this 1 hour 45 minute flight before I arrive once again in Bangkok. Going to stay near Koa San road again for a night, visit my previous hotel and hopefully retrieve my sunglasses (that they told me they have got). Not got any accommodation yet, but it won't be hard to find something cheap and im not fussed where really just for one night. Usually when you go on holiday, you go to one country and come home, seems a bit strange in my head moving on to another totally different country for 3 weeks. Im looking forward to it though, and as much as I love Thailand I think im ready for the next leg of this tour. [2 hour gap] I have managed to get some very cheap accommodation and it's a bit of a hole but its only for one night just off Koh san road, went back to the hotel and they had my sunglasses which i was not all together expecting, so im rather pleased about that. Not got much planned for tonight, im leaving tomorrow so will probably just get an early night…maybe one or 2 beers to bid Thailand farewell.
