Hi everyone,
We left Canberra last week and headed for Melbourne. We took an over night Greyhound bus and 9 hours later we arrived in Melbourne City in rush hour, we stood out like a saw thumb, with backpacks and walking shoes on we pounded the streets to find our tram, though all the suits in their heels and glad rags ( i was quite jealous really). We are staying in Port Melbourne just 10 mins from the beach off of Bay Street, which is full of cafe's, spa shops, organic foods stalls and just a 40 min tram ride from the city. We are also right opposite the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, not seen it leave yet though. We have been doing lots of walking, visited Federation Square, rode pilian on bikes through the city, seen fantastic oceans, taken untold amounts of photos, been to see aboriginal exhibitions in the hills, taking yoga classes, running on the beach in the morning, visiting friends, swimming at the common wealth games stadium. It has been pretty manic. We both really like Melbourne. It has so many layers. You could be walking down a posh expensive road, turn a corner and you are hit with a gothic, vegitarian, student town. Its very changable and has a very strong rich atmosphere, all the buildings are a combination of old and new, brick and metal, nion lite bridges and old brick tunnels along the rivers. Its a great place to visit and discover all the little nooks and krannies. Its well designed for travelling around and has a huge Cafe culture. We are heading off to Adelaide soon. I cannot wait to see the Great Ocean Road, it will be Chris's second time, although i'm sure a second look will still be amazing. Hope everyone is well, and everyone is safe, take care, Kate and Chris xxxx
