Days 54 - 59 - Jolly Swagmen at Maccy d's!
So the time has come to finally head to Sydney for my Xmas and new year escapades, after a horrendous 14 hour bus journey we arrived! Straight to the pub was the first priority as we were so stressed out and annoyed from the journey! I would then check into my hostel for the night, which was wake up, I'd booked this as I'd arrived a day earlier than I'd originally intended. Very nice hostel, I wish I'd been in here longer but hey ho...
Anyway we have a night out in Sydney that night and I meet Grace who went to Harper, always nice to see a familiar face on the other side of the world in a strange city!!
The day after I go to my new hostel which is called jolly swagman, it's not as nice as wake up but it's clean and the people are nice (mostly, but I'll get to that later) in my room is Dave from Lincolnshire, Anthony, Luke and Nathan from Birmingham and Tash (can't quite remember where she was from). A real sound group of people and I still feel a bit bad for not spending more time with them!
A couple of uneventful days pass until Xmas eve arrives. I met Jaime who had been in our room in cairns and we headed out to 'do Sydney' and be proper tourists! We went up the Sydney tower which offers amazing views of the city and the harbour, well worth a look if you're ever in Sydney. We then headed to the opera house for a drink at the bar, this place has one of the most amazing views of the harbour bridge! Great place for a schooner or 2! After this we headed up one of the pylons of the harbour bridge (way cheaper than the bridge walk and you get the same views!) which was awesome! All this walking around on the hottest Xmas eve I've ever experienced (30 degrees) was making us a bit thirsty so we called it a day and headed back to our hostels to get ready for the traditional Xmas eve sesh! We're heading down to Tom and Carla's Swedish friend erica's house for Swedish Xmas dinner (meatballs obviously), Jaime in true Scottish style is in his kilt, which we all enjoy thoroughly! We end up heading up to Newtown which is a suburb of Sydney but it is completely dead so we head back to the city and go to one of the hostel bars and boogie the rest of the night away! Tom and I have developed the same love for the song ni***s in Paris by jay-z and kanye west! And whenever it comes on we instinctively find each other and sing every word! Love it!!
So the day has finally come!! Australian Xmas day!!! We'd all planned to head to the beach, either bondi or coogee it didn't matter as long as we were at the beach!! But surprise surprise it's pissing with rain! Now it feels like English Christmas! So the beach is off the table! So myself and the swagman crew sit in our room and play some monopoly! I head outside for a smoke for a bit and i see two tranny's having a brutal fight on the street, welcome to kings cross on xmas day... And if you thought my day couldn't get any worse, Here's where the depressing thing comes in... We all go and have McDonald's for our Xmas dinner!! HOW DEPRESSING IS THAT!!?? Oh well we have a good feed!! So we have a bit more of a monopoly sesh then decide to play poker for money! Luke and myself draw and share the cash! That's about as exciting as my Xmas day got!
So Boxing Day comes and we've got good weather! Yay! We all decide to head down to darling harbour for a bit of a Boxing Day sesh! We arrive at about 2pm and settle in for the long haul! We meet loads of folk here, Lauren and Kara from our room in cairns, Ben and Leigh from my whitsundays boat, cathy from Fraser Island! Happy hour in this particular bar is 4 hours, $5 coronas, we sink a s*** load of them and the whole table is completely full! After this we head out to the city to carry on and end up in side bar under wake up again for a huge boogie!
The next day I'm due to meet Steph at central station so we can move into the apartment we've got with Robbie and joe over new year... But I sleep through two alarms and only wake up to her ringing me saying shes arrived and asking me why I'm not there... Oops! Anyway we move into this place which we've rented off of a very friendly gay man, a little too friendly at times... He definitely had a thing for me!
The next day we meet Robbie and joe to move them into the apartment, 4 people in a very small studio is rather tight...
Anyway that's enough of this one, next blog includes new year and the rest of Sydney times!! Yay!
Thanks for reading!
