Flora's travells
Well the overnight train was a bit of an experience! We got on it in Chiang mai about half three in the afternoon and had a delightful thirteen hour journey back to Bangkok! The seats turned into bunk beds which were actually not too bad, if it hadn't been for the noise, bugs and constant worry that someone was going to come and steel our bags I might have slept quite well!! Anyway after arriving in Bangkok we had about five hours to kill before we could go and check into our hostel, so we went and had coffee in the train station where we met a couple who had been travelling around oz and N.Z. for a year. It was good to have a chat with them and see what recommendations they had. After drinking copious amounts of tea and coffee we got on the MRT and went to find our hostel. On our first night here we went for a wander around silom road and had supper in a noodle bar. There were elephants on the side of the road with their owners. They tie them up and then ask people for money to feed them, it looked quite cruel as Silom is a very busy street with lots of noise and traffic, and they will not be fed untill someone pays twenty baht to give them something.
Later that evening (about one in the morning!) we met a very tired James and Rob, so didn't sleep much that night. (again!).
On tuesday we had a lie in and then went to Koh san rd durin ghte day, which was awsome. There were loads of little market stalls and cafes, we had lunch here and then walked from here to go and see the Grand Palace and Wat Po. We didn't however get into the Grand Palce, because being poor students, could't afford it. Wat Po was a bit cheaper so we went in to see it. It is the reclining buddah and its huge! (Pictures comming soon). We went out on Silom road in the evening went to some nice bars and passed quite a few not so nice! Silom road has a huge red light area, so lots of scantily clad women (and men!) wandering about! We did find a nice bar however in the middle of it and enjoyed the night trying to guess who were "real" ladies and who weren't quite so!!
On wednesday we went to look around all the big shopping plazas, which were very big, if you think Norwich is good for shopping try comming to Bangkok!! There were about four or five six storey shopping malls practically next to each other, loved it!! In the evening we went back to Koh san rd where a few beers were consumed, there were some really nice little bars along there and alcohol is very cheap!
Yesterday we went to look at China town which was very busy and smelly. Some of the little side streets were piled high with food of all sorts, very colourful but I wouldn't risk eating it! Sea slugs were amoung these and cooked chickens with their heads still attached!! Last night we went out on Sukhumvit which would have been really good if we weren't all so tired. Came back ealy as we had to get packed up and be checked out by 11 today.
Tonight we are travelling down to Koh Samui which we are all really looking foward to after spending four nights in the city. We have enjoyed ourselves here but can't wait for some fresh ish sea air rather than sewers and car fumes! We get on the overnight train and should arrive there tomorrow about half five in the morning. Will update again when we are there.
Loads of love Flora and Chris xxxxxxx xxxxxxx
