Hi Everyone,
We have had a very interesting and happy day, weather has been kind a bit cool and a little rain but not at the important times.
We managed to be on the road by 8.00am, saying our goodbyes to Sheila, we headed for the M5 leading us north onto the M6 for Scotland. We stopped at a couple of services for breaks before turning off for Near Sawrey which is where Beatrice Potter's Hill Top Cottage museum is located we planned on a lunch time stop. The picture is of the restaurant we had lunch at after our visit to Beatrice Potter's Cottage which was next door.
The drive to the cottage took a little longer than we thought as we drove around 2 sides of Lake Windermere and most of the time on very narrow almost single roads with passing places but it was beautiful countryside with views of the lake and many picture postcard villages. The Lake District is a part of England not to be missed and eachtime we come love it more.
The small village of Near Sawrey is certainly enchanting and cottage museum very authentic and charming. We whiled an hour away at the cottage before having lunch at the hotel next door, we sat in a big picture window overlooking the very pretty gardens leading down to the waters edge of Lake Windermere - what more could you want!!
We drove back towards the M6 motorway, but this time a much shorter route driving onto the ferry taking us to the other side of Lake Windermere.
We arrived in Troon, our overnight stop just after 6.00pm, we have a room reserved at the Piersland House Hotel, this we had booked several weeks ago back in Australia, it was a very pleasant surprise, our room is excellent with a huge king sized bed and ensuite. We booked into the restaurant for dinner, which turned out to be another good choice. Troon Golf course is just across the road and we will look forward to exploring it tomorrow morning.
