Bahrain (Kingdom of)
Hmmm, is there enough about Bahain to be worthy of a Blog entry? Probably not but here goes anyway...
The first thing I noticed about Bahain, and indeed what I will always remember it by, is the heat & humnidity. On walking through the airport doors at 8am I could have quite easily have been forgiven for thinking I'd taken a wrong turn into the airporrt hotel steam room, so mmuch did my glasses mist over & rivers of sweat begin to pour from my body. I have never experienced heat like that, and can't express enough my delight at Gulf Air bussing us to a tansit hotel rather than having to spend the day in THAT heat.
As a result of spending the day sandwiched between two night flights in a luxury air conditioned hotel with a more than adequate buffet (yippee!), I must be honest & admit that most of my, probably only, time in this country was spent eating & sleeping. But to make Bahrain sound slightly more interesting, here is a summary of our other activities:
> Swimming (in a v. nice pool)
> Sweating
> Water rationing (we didn't have any of the local currency)
> Going through airport security about 19 times. With liquids. Not water.
> Learning to appreciate the non-squat toilet.
> Looking at the tourist map & being sorely disappointed.
Without wanting to sound overly insulting to a country I have in effect seen very little of, I feel that it is fair to say that I'm not entirely sure why Bahrain exists, but am sure that those who live there think it's very nice.
