Something ingested on Sunday proved incompatible with Cleo and on Monday morning I woke to weak voice saying my name and then a gush of liquid and the waft of last nights partially digested pizza. Poor Cleo was not a well bunny. She then spend the rest of the day on the sofa with a sick bucket or attached to the loo. The rest of us seemed unscathed and fasiciously used the antibacterial gel when going anywhere near the loo.
It was my last day in Tlaxcala and leaving Cleo under her fathers care Gem kindly took me to the neighbouring town of San luis, famed for it's rug manufacturing. However it was not rugs I was after. They do exquisite embroidered tops in Mexico and having coveted one Aida was wearing I wanted to see if I could get a couple for Lauren and Taylor (and maybe myself). My mission was successful, for the girls anyway, adult ones are shapeless but I got a lovely embroidered dress and woven skirt. The skirt was for a child (adults ones were far too long) so I got some knicker elastic to adapt the waist to be bigger.
We picked up Aida, a bit late and incurring a £1 fine.Cleo was feeling a bit better by now but I was beginning to feel a bit ropey and just utterly exhausted. I had stayed up with Aida after the puking incident in the morning so was now shattered. After bathing the dog (very well behaved wee thing, but looks like a begradled cat when wet) and amending my skirt Cleo and I were the first to bed hoping we would both be better for heading to Mexico city the next day.
Tuesday and Cleo was as bright as a button and i was feeling more rested. In order to take the Wed off and because she had missed Monday she needed to complete some homework which involved making a model of the book she was reading which was a story about dinosaurs and some children. I helped her make it, which included making an origami pterodactyl from a video on utube, utterly complicated but eventually we succeeded. For her to have time to do this she had to miss the first couple hours of school, silly that they insist on you do homework when your sick. One model plus a even more complicated origami T- Rex (that took gem an hour to do) later and Cleo was off to school. Gem had to work in the afternoon and I packed my bag and a bag for the girls and did a bit of last min washing of me and some clothes.
We headed off to the bus station and arrived in Mexico city a couple hours later with a sleeping Aida and headed in a taxi straight to the hostel. After a brief change we headed out for a nice dinner as it was our last night together. The restaurant was lovely with beautiful tiles and an intricate stain glass window over the entrance. The waitresses were wearing uniforms that made them look more like matrons from the 1920s than servers. Unfortunately it was a bit late for everyone, Luis was displeased that there was no tv in the room and therefore he was missing his addictive mexican soap opera (i got somewhat involved with it as there are lots of exaggerated facial movements so you don't really need to speak Spanish to get the gist, also it doesn't actually seem to contain any actual Mexicans) and so was in a bit of a huff, Cleo wasn't feeling well again, Aida was tired and had filled up on bread and juice so couldn't eat her spaghetti (sound familiar mum?) and I was feeling dodgy again. Gem was the only one that seemed to still be going strong, like a trooper.
Carrying the kids back we all the hit the hay, me in my dorm room and the family in a big room together.
