woah, crazy days.
basically turns out that may day is a big deal in Europe and the following days are holidays everywhere also. I couldnt find a hostel for the 1st to 4th of May in Madrid, Barcelona, Cannes, Nice, Geneva, Madrid or Rome. After this i just gave up and decided to just travel on the trains like mad, figuring id just try the tried and tested method of just turning up and winging it.
Tonight im staying overnight in a well seedy hotel i "luckily?" found a bed in. The first 20 hotels i tried all hqd full signs on the front door. Last night i spent back in Madrid as i made my way up from Granada.
Turns out also that many of the essential trains i needed were not working either, thanks to a well timed trans European train strike.
I have managed to get a hotel room in Milan for tomorrow night after which ill spend at least 3nights in Rome in a 10Euro a night campsite dorm; a welcomed break from the preceeding 2nights stays in 35Euro night rooms!
Granada was amazing! its said to be the last remaining home of free tapas. Buy a drink, get fed. Drinks were about 1.90Euro (1.60pound): Wine, Beers, Cola etc. With this you choose something off the tapas menu and out it comes... Cheeseburger, crepe, omlette, pizza, ham, bread, chips etc free with your drinks. They are small of course, but for example the cheeseburger comes like a macdonalds cheeseburger, complete with salad and relish. Basically spend under a fiver there and you got yourself 3 glasses of wine and a nice amount of food :)
The views were stunning; Snow capped mountains as a backdrop to the lush forests and best preserved Medeival Arabic palace in the World, The Alahmbra which we did of course see... Pictures to come when i get the chance!
The Hostel there was the usual cool place id come to expect, Hammacs, chillout areas, candles at night and a cheap tiki style bar serving great sangria for a euro. But with Beer in Spain being so freekin cheap at one Euro for q litre of San Migeuel or Alahmbra etc, i bought my own at the supermacedas. Made me laugh that often beer was the cheapest option, being only slightly pricer than the cheapest waters. A can of beer the same size of a coke weighed in at 26cents, as oppose to a cheap branded pop at 56! Happy Days!
Time in Net Cafe running out so gotta dash... and yey, cheap dirty hotel to look forward to. O wells, im covering a lot of ground whilst rooms are hard to come by, and at 11Euros a night; the overnight trains are a godsend!
FINALLY: If you ever reqd this blog i expect at least a tiny comment on my board, im tired of hearing "I read it often but dont post", its nice to hear from yall!
