Luang Prabang is a small Laos town situated on the Mekong with a huge French Influence which is apparant as soon as you step foot off the boat with the hundreds of fresh bageuttes sellers on the side of the roads. Once we got off the boat we set off with bags on our back (in the rain) to find some accomodation, and after asking around we found out straight the way how expensive it was here! Most places that were cheap were fully booked and the others were far to expensive, so after walking round for the best part of and hour we decided to jump in a tuk tuk and asked him to take us somewhere he knew was cheap. He ended up taking us back to where we had just walked from and showed us to these guest houses on a back street which were 70000 kip a night, which works out to about £5. Thats another thing, its so hard changing currency and trying to work everything out again... in Laos they use Kip and everything sounds so much but basically 14000 kip is about £1. So after settling in we took a stroll out for dinner and ended up eating street food which was amazing, for 10000kip each we went to a street food buffet stall and ate until stuffed. The following day we woke to yet more rain so our site seeing was restricted, we only managed to make it to a Temple before the rain got too bad... unfortunatly this ended up being the story for our time in Luang Prabang which was unfortunate as it seemed such a nice place. When you walk down the main street you could actually be in a small town in France, it seems a very wealthy town and really is quite pretty but its such a shame how the weather can affect your thoughts on a place, apparantly there is a really amazing waterfall here but due to the weather we never got chance to see it. That evening we headed to a really trendy bar on the river for some food and drinks but it wasnt long before the heavens opened again so we headed back to the guest house for a hot baguette and coffee! After another rainy evening we woke to yet another wet day... so it was at this point we decided to get out of town and head further south to the Tubing capital of the world - Vang Vieng.
