We left Blenheim today for what should have been a 3 hour drive to Richmond, a town near Nelson on the North of the South island.
Unfortunately we encountered our first traffic jam since arriving in New Zesland. It looked like traffic had been at a standstill for some time. We were out in the country so pulling off to wait it out wasn't really an option.
I decided to find out what was happening so walked down the line for about 10 minutes. When I still couldn't see what was happening I asked a truck driver what was up and he told me that a logging truck had turned over in the road, blocking both lanes and spilling it's load all I've the place. He had already been sitting there for 2 hours and it was likely to be at least another 2 as they were waiting for the recovery truck to get there from Blenheim, about 2 hours away!
Sadly our options were limited. We either had to stick it out in the queue or double back on ourselves and take the much longer route to Richmond via Blenheim. We went with the latter option and arrived in Richmond late.
